The Lyrics

I wrote this nearly 10 years ago when I was even more of a computer geek than now. I recently found a copy on an old floppy disk, and updated it a bit before posting.
Call me a hacker, call me a fool
I think this language just totally rules
Can't deal with Java, Python sucks too,
BASIC won't do what I want it to do
Sometimes it feels like I'm coding too fast
I don't know quite how this pointer gets passed
Maybe I'll set it to NULL.

Darling, do you know why I program in C?
Not high and not low, its just right for me
And when it works and compiles
And processes all of my files
Darling, I sure know why I program in C.

Sometimes I'm wired, sometimes asleep,
Often amazed at the work hours I keep
Maybe it won't run, maybe it will
I think I've learned how to catch a SIGKILL.
Tell me what inputs you think it can take
Until the code that I wrote starts to break
Sometimes I'm sure that it will

Darling, do you know why I program in C?
Not high and not low, its just right for me
And when it works and compiles
And processes all of my files
Darling, then I know why I program in C.

Ported from UNIX into XP
Leaving the real world behind
If it won't run then it's all Windows' fault and not mine
Sometimes I stay awake, night after night
Swearing and pounding the keys
Have to debug, output ain't right
Why do I program in C?

Darling, do you know why I program in C?
Not high and not low, its just right for me
And when it works and compiles
And processes all of my files
Darling, I sure know why I program in C.

I sung a version of it on Smule so there’s a copy of it sung out there.
