Original Performer:

Parody Song Title:

"Throwing Goo"

Parody Written by:

Robert D. Arndt Jr.

The Lyrics

Annual Black Pudding Throwing Contest in Ramsbottom. Yes, this is a sport going back a century or more.
Throwing goo,
Black pudding,
Knock off plinth Yorkshire rivalry
3Kg to budge,
Three chances to puddings move,
Brits are odd to tell the truth!

Throwing goo,
Absurdity,
Used in Great War against Jerrys!
Trench of mud,
Ammo out and only food to use,
Black pudding on Boche gas mask was approved*
* Apparently in WW1, the Brits often tossed black pudding at German troops and other foods when ammo ran out! Germans tossed cabbage!!!

Jon, black pudding is blood sausage which is thrown against Yorkshire pudding (eggs, milk, and flour baked in muffin cups with melted butter often served with beef and gravy). In the sport, a thrower must knock as many Yorkshires off a plinth with three underhand throws. Each Yorkshire dish is 3kg or 6.614 lbs! Jon, look up Manchester egg!!!

Or Jon you could have done spotted dick: Spotted dick is a British pudding, made with suet and dried fruit (usually currants and/or raisins) and often served with custard ;-)

^ indeed hence the sarcasm about it sounding appetizing! we've got some strange sounding foods down here in the south which I've no interest in trying (I know weird there's some foods even I won't touch!)

Some added trivia. In WW1, the British biscuits were so hard that one usually had to use a rock to break them apart and then soak them in water to be able to digest them. British soldiers often described them as being hard as dog treats! Empire troops outside of Europe ate camel meat and other animals native to Africa and Asia.
