Red Ant: I think you could retire from your dayjob if you could copyright the phrase ”Grunge is dead” and get a dollar everytime someone says it or writes it. And the same goes for ”(insert any musical genre here) is dead”. I know I could, and that’s just in Sweden. :-)>

As for music in general there’s an interesting phenomenon with white music coming up with a rebellious trend approximately every 15 years. 91-92 it was Grunge. 76-77 it was Punk. 63-64 it was The Beatles (we may not think of them as rebels today, but back then…).

So given that “trend” isn’t dead we have the next big thing just around the corner. Possibly, but not necessarily, it will blow up in our faces with some brand new band scoring a huge hit with lyrics that hits home with this American generation that now has to go abroad in the military themselves or see lots of their friends do it. If I were a talent scout for a record company I would stalk the local scene in any American city that has a) a big military base, b) a university, c) a big local music scene with lots of young bands and d) taken more than it shares of losses overseas.

And after that has happened Grunge will of course be as retro/classic and open for redefinition as punk has been. Scary though in that; 5-10 years from now we might have an Avril Lasagna type of artist being marketed as Grunge! =8-()

Thanks Peter, though I'd rather have "slam rights" than money when people say "Grunge is Dead" ( though money would be nice too ). As for Anvil Lavigne, she isn't true punk anyway. Sid Vicious, G.G. Allin and Wendy O Williams hold near exclusive rights on that. I do hope you are correct about the "cycle" though, we seriously need some good music in the near future.

PS: Apparently at least 5 people here know this song, as it has been parodied 3 times in the last 2 weeks and another person who did it first is still making parodies. So, the answer to the rhetorical question posed here is: No, Grunge isn't dead.

Grunge isn't dead, really. Rage Against the Machine is, in some cases, considered grunge and now the remaining members are with Chris Cornell (part of another grunge band Soundgarden) to make Audioslave, which has a melodic grunge sound similar, but not like, AIC.

By the way, I know this song, so that makes at least 6 who know this song. In fact, Bleed the Freak is my fav AIC song (next to Would and I Stay Away...oh and Down In a Hole of course).

Good one, Red... Creed killed grunge, but Audioslave resurrected it.

This works pretty well. Grunge died when it became aware of itself.

555, especially since I agree with you and I think it's better than my "See The Shrink" parody. This makes two song parodies that have the same titles as a couple of my originals. Grunge Is Dead(the lyrics in my original have nothing to do with the title, but the song is in a grunge style) and Hentai(same title as a whatfreaks parody. An X rated original song).

Come to think about it; Nine Inch Nails’ comeback might be a foreboder of a new trend or a retro for Grunge, Trent Reznor’s first peak was just before Nirvana and Alice in Chains and it was pretty much only because he had already been labelled ”Industry Metal” or something like that he didn’t come to count as Grunge, though in retrospect the whole ”Pretty hate machine” album has more in common with grunge than the dominant but dire Glam Rock Metal scene of the middle and late 80s.

K1chyd, I have PHM and Downward Spiral but look foward to something new by them ( Trent ). Funny you should mention Glam Rock, as Alice in Chains started that way in 1987, covering Slayer tunes and what not, complete with the whole hair-metal thing. Thankfully they changed!!

Step-chan, just PM me with the lyrics when you get them done/finished if you want. Michael, yes grunge was alive ( and still is for many ).You might have to listen to some of it to fill those 1990, 1995 and 1996 year gaps you have.=)

Awesome job. By the way, one of my favorite AIC songs, along with Would?, Down in a Hole, and Man in the Box. When Facelift came out, I was blown away with Man in the Box and Bleed the Freak. AIC never achieved the popularity of Nirvana, but they blow Nirvana away.
