I don't usually consume eggnog during the holidays, but this Southern Comfort brand intrigues me. 5-5-5!

Well done, Jon. I got my friend to drink SC, but he puts whipped cream on top! Go figure! 555!

^ Thanks Blokes!
Randall - if you haven't yet, give Southern Comfort a try! one of the many reasons I LOVE The Christmas Season! :)
Rob - that's cool, man! whipped cream, eh? I may try that one day, but I'm not sure. sounds like your friend might like the Vanilla Spice flavor, because, to me at least, it has kind of a "Whipped Cream" taste about it.

Jonathan, have you by chance tried chocolate eggnog?
Jonathan - December 20, 2016 - Report this comment
wait, there's a chocolate eggnog?! I'll have to be on the lookout for that. Thanks for the tip! :)
Rob Arndt - December 20, 2016 - Report this comment
I think Trader Joe's has it, but it's reputedly horrible. You can also make hot chocolate eggnog and add whipped cream on top. I tried it and don't like it.
Jonathan - December 21, 2016 - Report this comment
^ ah, I see. well, I don't know of anywhere that carries the Trader Joe's brand in my area, let alone a Trader Joe's store, so I guess no choco-eggnogn for me! then again, if it's really supposed to be horrible, maybe that's for the best!
Rob Arndt - December 21, 2016 - Report this comment
John, you can just buy some chocolate milk and mix it manually without a blender about 50-50. That's what it tastes like- thicker chocolate milk and then the bad lingering aftertaste. Two things that shouldn't go together. The stuff I drank was homemade with added ingredients. I still didn't like it. Another way is to add warm cocoa mix in a blender.
Jonathan - December 21, 2016 - Report this comment
^ I'll probably try that one day, I won't know if I like it, unless I try. although, I'll be honest, I usually think Southern Comfort's too good to mess with! occasionally, I'll cut it with Ginger Ale, or 7Up. but usually drink it straight.

Jonathan, there are five different eggnogs at my grocery store. How do I know which one is best?
Jonathan - December 24, 2016 - Report this comment
^ the completely fair approach of course, is to try them all. if you don't feel like doing that, then just go with Southern Comfort! you won't regret it! :)
Arthur - December 24, 2016 - Report this comment
Ronnybrook is the best, bar none! Given A+ ratings. As thick as Southern Comfort but with better texture and less spice taste. Fully balanced. Stay away from Hood and Horizon eggnogs. Trader Joe's is just OK...

Eggnog-Shmegnog, who needs it? Whatever happened to spiked Christmas punch?
Try this - December 24, 2016 - Report this comment
Warm Christmas punch: 32oz cranberry juice, one large can of pineapple juice also 32 oz, a third of a cup of Red Hots candy, and a cinnamon stick 3 1/2" all cooked for 3 hrs on low in a large Crock-Pot. Remove cinnamon stick and serve! Add liquor as desired!
Jonathan - December 24, 2016 - Report this comment
Arthur - don't know if any stores in my area carry this Ronnybrook, but I can check when I go to Albertson's. you say it's less spiced though? because the wintery-spiced flavor of SC, is one of many things I love about it!
Jonas - you drink what you like, and I'll drink what I like! WHOA!!! (virtual cookie for anybody who gets the reference!)
Try this - with the omission of the liquor, I may try that! sounds like something my older brother would like anyway, he enjoys cinnamon! Thanks!
Merry Christmas!

Melt-In-Your-Mouth Eggnog Cookies Prep Time: 30 minutes Cook Time: 12 minutes Yield: About 32 cookies Ingredients 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour 2 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg, plus more for topping 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon 3/4 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/2 cup packed light-brown sugar 2 large egg yolks 1 tsp vanilla extract 1/2 tsp rum extract 1/2 cup eggnog Frosting 1/2 cup butter, at room temperature (I used 1/4 cup salted and 1/4 cup unsalted butter) 3 - 5 Tbsp eggnog 1/2 tsp rum extract 3 cups powdered sugar Directions Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and cinnamon for 30 seconds, set aside. In the bowl of an electric stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, whip together butter, granulated sugar and brown sugar until pale and fluffy. Mix in egg yolks one at a time, blending just until combined after each addition. Mix in vanilla extract, rum extract and egg nog. With mixer set on low speed, slowly add in dry ingredients and mix just until combined. Scoop dough out by the heaping tablespoonfuls and drop onto Silpat or parchment paper lined baking sheets, spacing cookies 2-inches apart. Bake in preheated oven 11 - 13 minutes. Allow to rest on baking sheet several minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool. Cool completely then frost with Eggnog Frosting and sprinkle tops lightly with nutmeg. For the Eggnog Frosting: In the bowl of an electric stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, whip butter until very pale and fluffy. Add in rum extract and 3 Tbsp eggnog and mix in powdered sugar. Add additional eggnog to reach desired consistency.

Jonathan, is this the most comments you've ever had relative to such a short parody?
Kent - December 26, 2016 - Report this comment
I had some eggnog at a party yesterday and it was overly spicy. Don't know if it was homemade or not, but I'm going to look for this fabled Southern Comfort before it's gone! Three fivers

who knew? - I'm a little surprised myself, but in a good way! Thank You everyone who voted, one and all!
? - I believe so, my most comments ever I think, was on my "Where's My Car?" parody. strangely enough, those comments were ALSO mostly about eggnog, despite the drink not being mentioned at all within the parody!
Kent - Thanks, and yes, Southern Comfort is highly recommended! it is very spiced of course, but delicious!

Thank you Jonathan for giving me the courage to try eggnog. Ever since I was a kid, people tried to make me drink eggnog at Christmas but I smelled it and got sick. I've stayed away from it ever since. Now, 32 years later and I bought some Southern Comfort in the black box. I tried it in the store and it was so good, I went back and bought 3 more! That stuff is great! I owe you one Jonathan! Happy New Year, cheers!
Jonathan - December 27, 2016 - Report this comment
^ that's great, Pearl! happy I could help! Southern Comfort is something that should be enjoyed, by all who CAN enjoy it! (those without egg allergies, or are not lactose intolerant!) Cheers! ☺
