Well, it used to be kinda like Deutsch, so
we started to atone,
and we chopped it down, had inflections still,
but they’re mainly rump,
close to, not quite, nil.

Once Germanicized. . .got rid of them things
but for one case. . .a pun, methinks.
And them bad old days will not return,
meaning cases we will not have to learn.

A simple “you” has replaced “thou”;
“Thou goest”—“you go” now.
“He/she goeth” became—so let’s be fair—
“he/she goes,” so there’s one place where
it ain’t simplified, but “thou” went down,
and cases got out of town.

To German, “bye-bye”—though there’s still “he/she brings,”
but “thou,” “thee” a history thing.
And them bad old days will not return,
but the Amish ain’t sought them days to spurn.
