In Israel, there've been a lot of tensions recently between mainstream (secular or moderate) Israelis and the Haredim (ultra-Orthodox) minority. The Haredim have much higher birthrates (8 children per family on average) and some Haredi men don't work outside the home because they believe it is their religious duty to study the Torah all day. Instead, they often subsist on government welfare. Considering their high birthrate, these tensions are going to get worse the as the Haredim, currently 10% of the population, edge closer to becoming the majority (which probably will happen around 2030 or so).

*Many Haredi men believe it is a sin to look at a woman, especially if she's "immodestly" dressed (well, most women today would be immodest by their standards)

Israel pays men to sit at home and make babies? They really are like us in so many ways. Except the Israelis spend their time studying Scripture while Americans drink beer and smoke crack.
