"You Didn't Build That"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Lennie beat me to the punch on this idea, but I think my take is somewhat different, expounding on what the president said in his recent speech in Roanoke, VA, with some counterpoint thrown in.
You didn't build that, you didn't build that all by yourself
Didn't build that, you didn't build that all by yourself

You might not know this, but Barry says it's true
If your business succeeds, it's not just from you
Knee deep in the bull[bleep], follow all the rules
All those who work for you, they were trained in schools

If you use roads and bridges, if you use the Internet, you should remember
You didn't build that, you didn't build that all by yourself

You didn't build that, you didn't build that all by yourself
Didn't build that, you didn't build that all by yourself

Someone always playing corporation games*
Lefties all keep alleging corporation shame
We just want a chance here, please get off our backs
They say that we're all greedy if we don't pay more tax

If you use roads and bridges, if you use the Internet, you should remember
You didn't build that, you didn't build that all by yourself

You didn't build that, you didn't build that all by yourself
Didn't build that, you didn't build that all by yourself

It's just another workday, in our family's store
The regulation choke hold, and now they're still bringing more

You made your money, but you had some help
That's where the credit's due, not just for yourself
Don't say you don't need us, and don't think that we're fools
Transforming America, starting with your schools

[Spoken]
I'm looking out over the 14th Street Bridge**
Here comes another hot and humid summer day
Just look at that crazy commuter rat race

[Resume singing]
You should remember ('member, 'member)

[Spoken]
From their regular Metro stations, off to where they are going to
The nation's capital, the corporate town, the city built on a swamp

[Resume singing]
If you use roads and bridges, if you use the Internet, you should remember
You didn't build that, you didn't build that all by yourself

You didn't build that, you didn't build that all by yourself
Didn't build that, you didn't build that all by yourself
Didn't build that, you didn't build that all by yourself
Didn't build that, you didn't build that all by yourself

(Did not, you didn't build it) Didn't build it (Did not, you didn't build it)
(Did not, you didn't build it) Didn't build it (Did not, you didn't build it)
[Repeat and fade out]
*This line was not changed from TOS. It fit in as originally written. **Over the Potomac River, between Washington, DC and Arlington, VA.

Funny thing is ... I submitted this last Sunday and when I pressed the Send icon, my Firefox did an automatic reset and the whole thing disappeared into cyber ether! Then I had a back problem which gets aggravated by sitting and hunching over a computer so I delayed two more days. This should have showed up on Monday

Nice one Steve-555!!! Btw, having worked heavy construction in the late 1980s, there are many buildings here in Sacramento that I helped build and whenever I drive by them I remember my contribution. A building generally outlives its builder, so when I die they will hopefully still be standing (although Sacramento's downtown K St. area is basically gutted as is the K St. Mall while the railyard sits open waiting for development of ANY kind).

Excellent job both you and Lennie did on this theme, Steve! The latest job growth tally for the second quarter was 1.5%. Wow, impressive! I think we can all agree that Obama and his pathetic policies built that.

You built this ditty quite nicely. Of course Quayle made it possible by inventing the internet... ;)
