Parody Song Title:

"Socrates (Sophist Greek?)"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

My recent studies into the life of Socrates have helped produce this parody. I take it he was always acutely aware of his and humans' incongruities. He was as I understand, able to see the faults of others and then embrace the "accustomed irony" that he himself had similar ones. Well, I hope you like it as much as he liked talking to people of all walks of life. Am I Right?
Sophist Greek

He's a satyr looking man
The kind that don't too well with hemlock
Who would never drink a poison down
Till he faced a death decry, (uuhh, man!)

He taught the youth to be bad
They say Plato was his long time fav'rite
When he made a speech, Plato would go and write lines
He never wrote a thing

{Refrain}
That Greek was avant-garde now (for his time)
That Greek's a Sophist Freak (He resented being called this. He considered himself beyond Sophism)
The kind of Greek you hear about
In college campus wings
That Greek was always thinking
Who never wrote his memoirs
Ony had a speech
Plato write! Plato write!
Plato would write for him, yeah
He's a Sophist Greek, Sophist Greek*
I'm Socrateasing, now

Socrates, Socrates

He's a paradox and more
The kind of mind that's enigma
With his methods of elenchus
and "Divine Sign", yeah?
And he'd pounce on some at length with dialectic
With no apology
Growing up as a city boy
Country's nothing to him, he says
Athenian, and engaging
If you'd seen him he had upturned nose, and nostrils
He looked a little mean

{Refrain}

{Bridge}

Libations sing!
Ohhhhh
Super Greek, Super Greek
That freaks a Super Greek
Ohhhhh

He had all pervading humour
The kind that don't do well at Banquets (Xenophon's Banquet)
He would never let your spirits down
If you'd meet him on the street, hey now

Go, Johnny!

* He bitterly resented being called a Sophist by his contemporaries
