Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

It depressed me sometimes when I hear certain songs and realise they are actually making money.....
I can't stand these lyrics of this hit song
And yet I can't turn off my radio
What moron wrote these dumb words, of this crap song?
I only wish I'd never heard of REO

I tell myself it can't go on forever
Because it's causing damage to my ear
These words hit like a hammer, not a feather
It causes inflammation
And it makes my eyeballs tear

And even as I wonder
Just who approved this tripe
Should have tossed it down the toilet
After using it to wipe
For the rhymes are grosser
Than a bowl of fruit that's ripe

And I can't stand these lyrics anymore
All they do is find some words to rhyme with "Or"
It could have been written by any whore
It really is a bore, whatever
Cause I can't stand these lyrics anymore
One verse wasn't enough, they had to write more
Soon I'm gonna hit my head on the floor
Be unconscious and snore
Buddy, I can't stand these lyrics anymore

My head has been in a tizzy since I heard this
I've been trying to get it out of my mind
And it always seems that they play it way too much
And it brings my morning driving and my poor teeth to a grind

And even as I reach fast to turn the damn thing off
I can't handle even seconds, turn my head and loudly cough
Please no more Speedwagon, I think enough is enough!

And I can't stand these lyrics anymore
All they do is find some words to rhyme with "Or"
It could have been written by any whore
It really is a bore, whatever
Cause I can't stand these lyrics anymore
One verse wasn't enough, they had to write more
Soon I'm gonna hit my head on the floor
Be unconscious and snore
Buddy, I can't stand these lyrics anymore

And what is wrong with lyrics written by a whore, I have to ask??? ; ) Nice work, Rick...

I was referring to songwriting sluts.... and it rhymed with shore and oar, so it must be good.

Good one Rick! Especially all the 'or' rhymes...

I think I started one called this (well, I know I started to write one called this, 'cause I found the file) aeons ago, but decided to write the "I can't find the freezer any more" sequel to "Fridge odour troubled Walter" parody instead. Also, this is a load better than what I've got sketched, so I don't think it'll be seeing light of day :-)

Some great ones today. This was excellent, and I'd like to point out that a parody that rags on other people's lyrics can only be successfully be pulled off by a great lyricist. Well done, Rick!

I'd just like to plug my new song on Soundclick (See top of page) Which is a song written from a parody. I guess this means that like Merry and Pippin, I can go both ways.

this si one of them recursive post-modern existential parodies - that I LOVE (if done well - and this is) - "All they do is find some words to rhyme with "Or" (which is what you are simultaneously doing and not doing) - very clever - 555

Yeah I agree about the June-moon-spoon lyric rhyme scheme and I certainly detected the "Or" biz early on. A review for the "Wheels Are Turnin'" album that showcases this hit (and others too) said that there's "better poetry than this on the label of a can of peaches".Still, this song does have a place in my world because of the time when it hit the top - musically and the MTV video but not lyrically. Love your parody, 555s. However, the lyrical quality of hit songs in the past 10-15 years or so is even more atrocious. Put some LSD or XTC in my drink and I can write better lyrics than that garbage, and so can you. Keep cool. Peace out!
