The Lyrics

A little tale of resentment and woe, from the video game world's biggest second banana, Luigi.
Why must he hog-a the spotlight?
I've no real friends, they're all-a lies
They're here so they can get-a close
To my big brother, Mario

He always gets-a Power Stars
In worlds quite strange - logic is-a barred
That high-pitched laugh - "he jumps so high"
The higher jumper is-a I
(Now you know)

So why am I some background guy
I've saved the land a lot of times
But you don't know, or don't-a care
You act-a like I'm not-a there
You have no time, no, not an hour
You just give him the Fire Flower
Mario (Mario)

All I hear is Mario's great-a
Mario whoo-hoo
Mario's smart-a
All I hear is Mario ga ga
Mario blah blah
Mario's so cool
No-one knows I'm his brother too!

They always treat him like a star
Chant "Mario" for hours and hours
It doesn't help to block my ears
I've helped this kingdom through the years

I'll never have a friend that will
Not use-a me to get close to him
I might leave town, I won't-a miss you
I'm sick and tired of big bro's visual
I hunt-a ghosts, does it matter?
I save-a world, don't care, do ya?
No, you don't - no, you don't

All I hear is Mario's great-a
Mario whoo-hoo
Mario's smart-a
I'm Luigi, I can run faster
Than-a you-know-who
I can jump higher
All I hear is Mario ga ga
Mario blah blah
Mario's so cool
I'm his brother too!

(Mario blah blah
Don't you know I'm-a
His fuckin' brother)

If it weren't for brotherly love
I'd jam a mushroom up his butt
Mario (Mario)
God bless the "-a" of the stereotypical Italian accent, it makes pacing slightly less of a hassle.

I want to hear this one recorded in the goofy Luigi voice. It would be perfect.

Artistry: Personally, I prefer Luigi to Mario...excellent job showing the anger you know Luigi has towards his brother lol
Agrimorfee - November 24, 2010 - Report this comment
This was quite clever and original. Agreed that the usage of "-a" was a big factor in my enjoyment.

Artistry Queen

COP - "No vista nada". Luigi is being a chooch and should a just-a be glad that his big-a brother gives him pasta fazoo. Luigi's nona grazi is gonna get him muerto. Don Mario has some powerful associates and in that culture nothing is personal - everything is just business.

This is marvelous. I enjoyed reading it. The reason for the -a used when speaking English is that for the most part Italian is a lazy tongue language and ending words in hard consonants is awkward for the speaker. This worked so very well for you. Ché bono é cinque - cinque - cinque.

Slightly repetitive, BUT, I am such a huge fan of Mario AND Luigi (and for that matter the entire mario crew-Toad, Yoshi, etc) so I really liked this--great idea TCOP!

Not too familiar with this Queen song but it totally sounds like a product of the 80s with the synthesizer. Not my favorite Queen song it's a bit dull in areas but I think this would make a hell of a recording. We need to make sure that Dave records this one for you some day.

I was a few years too old for the initial DK game and a few years too young for Queen when they peaked in their progressive pursuit, so I entered this parody with low expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised, you nailed the feel of the original, carried the theme through despite partially repeating the chorus, and topped it with the Italian-a accent. Claude Prez once won the SOTM with one in Jamaican accent (http://www.amiright.com/parody/90s/disney9.shtml) and though this is the first one I'm judging in this round I think you might be heading for at least a medal here.

I think the weirdest accent written in a parody has to be done by me in my "C Is For Cookie" parody where I used the Cookie Monster accent. lol
Jeff Reuben - December 18, 2010 - Report this comment
Cute song, like the OS, don't hear that one very often. I was a big fan of the video game back in the day, brought back memories.
Mike Juergens - December 30, 2010 - Report this comment
Cute concept, done with fitting song. Didn’t like the ending though. Found it jarring. For me it broke the vibe, which had been nicely carried up to that point.

Matty, I don't find cookie monster 'weird' per se any more than I find Mario's imitation Italian weird or Kermit's voice weird (somehow his voice defined how frogs would speak if they spoke to the point people still say "Sound like a frog")
