The Lyrics

I originally wrote this as a Eurocrat "Gravy Train" song, but didn't like it. Then I found that the remuneration package for the chairman of the Welsh Development Agency was set in 1998 at £44,000 per year - for a two-day week! Now, that's the kind of job I could cope with...
All aboard (ha ha ha ha ha ha)

Crazy, and I should know
Thousands of quangos handing out dough
Maybe it's not too late
To get myself on one, yeah that would be great

It's who you know that matters
Don't even need a brain
I'm going off to Wales on a gravy train
I'm going off to Wales on a gravy train

I dined with PR men, I ate out with fools
I paid politicians for bending their rules
One person appointed to rule and control
The pay that goes with it, beats being on the dole

I got my appointment
Life in the fast lane
I'm going off to Wales on a gravy train
I'm going off to Wales on a gravy train

I know that things are looking up for me
I gotta great big fat ol' pay check, yeah

A bloated old fat cat, that's what I've become
Snout in the trough now, I'm mentally numb
Crazy, I know it's not fair
I'm living the high life - so why should I care?

It may be unappealing
It isn't me to blame
I'm going off to Wales on a gravy train
I'm going off to Wales on a gravy train

Good stuff. Are you a Tory by any chance? As to the Eurocrat gravy train song - I'll work on that one and see if I can do a good version.

Am I a Tory? Have a look at this one, and see if you still think so: http://www.amiright.com/parody/70s/billyjoel162.shtml

OK, I have now explored the parody site further and found some of your other parodies with which I agree less, but I find this contrast odd: the Leftist idea of state intervention automatically requires people hired by the state to intervene, i.e. bureaucrats, so only the Right are ever likely to get rid of state gravy trains.

Neither left nor right have proved particularly able at reducing the number of bureaucratic well-paid sinecures: probably because the people who could do it don't want to as it's something they're hoping for once they leave office. Cynical, moi?
