The Lyrics

Sometimes a political endorsement can embarrass; and Barack Obama has many good ones. See http://www.usdreams.com/Greenwood79.html for original lyrics.
If tomorrow this campaign were lost, I'd worked through all the strife,
And I had to start again with just my Senate seat and wife,
I'd thank the stripes and stars not to live in fear that day,
'Cause my flag pin stands for freedom, and I can take that away.

I'm not proud to be linked to Farrakhan, 'though I knew him formerly,
'Cause he won't forget white men who tried to take God's rights from me;
And I'll make a stand in text, on tube and denounce him till apre'.
'Cause there ain't no doubt that Allah's hand suppressed the K.K.K.

From the libs of Minnesota, to the hicks of Tennessee,
The neo-cons of Texas, from San Fran to D.C.,
Chicago down to Austin and Boston to L.A.,
There is hope in ev'ry American heart, and it's time for change today.

So I'll loudly be an American, 'though at peace the world should be;
And I'll work to get all men allied; so give that might to me,
And I'll bravely stand up next to those mean dictators, who I'll sway
To restrain their clout, I'll soon disband all terrorists who prey.
If you sing this in public and people drop money, keep it; but drop a note to me at bjmitchel@att.net. Apre' is French for afterward or later.

Barry: You can plug your work under appropriate circumstances, but in general, I think you'd get a lot more readers if you checked back more often and acknowledged those who took time out of their busy days to read, vote, and comment. (You know about your "Latest comments" button, right?)

There's no rule or anything about it, but IMHO, it's common courtesy. If someone repeatedly doesn't acknowledge my comments (even just "thanks"), I assume that either they're not reading them, or the comments are unappreciated, so I stop reading that person. Some other writers agree with me; some don't; but you might have lost a lot of the first group (including moi, early on, but the song that linked to this was too good to ignore.)

Take it FWIW. Just trying to help. I won't be following this page, so if you have a reply, please do so at one of my songs. Cheers.

I posted this on Feb. 29, 2008 when the issue was current. It sat 17 months and 2 weeks without comment, until I referred to it in a comment on another's parody. Thanks, TT, I've amended my ways since.
