The Lyrics

Mari gave me this title. Seemed obvious, so I searched and didn't see any others. I'm sure you'll tell me if there is.
Just look at you on that stool
You never "cooked" better than tonight
And it's always so easy to get you to play
Like you've drummed so many times
I was so sure this would be the gig
You'd close the show
And make it on T.V.
And you would be so famous
You'd really get paid
More than in just rolled-up dimes

Don't fall in love with a drummer
He just won't hear above the din
Just when you think
He's been ensnared
He'll beat it again
Don't fall in love with a drummer
Because he never has the time

So get on the stick and take a stand
Before you need to crash
Always pounding
Now the phone rings, you go play
You gotta get your band together
Please get a job
You're no longer a teen
And do you know?
How many drummers to change a light bulb?
You now do that with a machine

Don't fall in love with a drummer
He just won't hear above his noise
Just when you think
He's been ensnared
He'll play with his toys
Don't fall in love with a drummer
Because he never knows the time

So I'm leaving you and here's why
I'm with the keyboard guy

Rick D - DKTOS, but a good...and a true...read. I remember hanging out a bit with Lenny Bruce's one-time drummer (from the 1950's, Gary Frommer). A real nice guy but...a bit of a walking disaster zone. He was working at the Car Wash for us at the time.

Hmmm... drummer... car wash... That makes sense. 20 some-odd (very odd) years ago, I had a band that covered this song. We used to introduce this song and dedicate it to our drummer's wife. Rick and I have both had relationships with drummers. They tend to be a beat off.

Rick - I remember the chorus part to this song but swiss cheese on the rest. Looked good though. Now for your votes - drum roll please... 5, 5, 5.

JMJ Dude! Was that our PUNishment? War clubs on the toms for this effort! (Translation: War clubs (n.) Excessively large drum sticks. On the toms: triple fives. )

Mari D - Actually, at that particular time we had the better part of a band working for us at the Car Wash. The drummer, a bass player (jazz - he preferred the old stand-up bass over the electrified types), a flautist (actually we had a couple at different times in the mid-70's. One was kind of a flake and only a fair-to-middling player. But the other one was quite good - he was a teen-ager working there through the summer and on weekends during the school year. I believe he ended up playing for the London Philharmonic. I ought to see if I can find a mention of him on google or something. maybe I'lll take a look around now. I probably won't remember to check on it later.

Excellent one, Rick - "Just when you think /He's been ensnared/He'll beat it again" is damn near perfect :-)
