The Lyrics

The Sheriff of Maricopa Co., Arizona, tired of his department's handcuffs "disappearing", has decided to use pink handcuffs, which would be very easy to spot if they leave police possession and turn up elsewhere. For good measure, the inmate's boxer shorts and bedsheets are also pink. Maybe not cruel punishment, but definitely unusual. The Papago, also known as Tohono O'Odham, are a Native American tribe whose reservation is south of Phoenix, and through which some illegal immigrants pass.
There's a sheriff down in Phoenix
Maricopa county's his beat
There are two interstates numbered sev'nteen and ten
You know, he thinks that the place is so neat
But there's a problem with his handcuffs
Stranger than what you might think
If you look at them, they won't be silver
Yes, I must warn you that they're fluorescent pink

Yes, it's here in America for you and me
In Arizona, we've got something to see baby
In Maricopa, we crooks won't go free
Little pink handcuffs for you and me

I was a young man in a t-shirt
Listening to a rockin' rollin' station
But then I turned into a greasy crook
And this jail cell became my destination
And they told me, when I arrived heeeere
Boy, this place can really stink
But just like everyone else, I still have to wear
These boxers which are pink

Yes, it's here in America for you and me
In Arizona, we've got something to see baby
In Maricopa, we crooks won't go free
Little pink handcuffs for you and me

(instrumental break)

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh yeah

Well, there's people and more people
Where do they go go go?
Papago protect their lands
As illegal migrants come from Mexico
Oooh yeah
And there's winners, but we're losers
We're sitting in the clink
'Cause the prisoner here sleeps on his bunk,
It's junk, and the sheets are pink

Yes, it's here in America for you and me
In Arizona, we've got something to see baby
In Maricopa, we crooks won't go free
Little pink handcuffs for you and me

(repeat)

Ooooh, yeah!

Clever blending of two seemingly disparate ideas. Great title!

Your ratings are gonna be in the pink! (That's good. Or, as prisoner of the year Martha Stewart would say, "It's a good thing.")
