Actually, the real temptation is to do "Billie Jean," except he let everyone think that the kid really was his son, even though he might not have been. With no apologies to George Costanza, author of the answering-machine message, "Believe it or not, George isn't at home..."

Good parody, Michael, but I don't think you give your subject enough credit. Grover Cleveland, the last good Democrat president, was probably the last classical liberal (i.e., libertarian, not modern paternalistic liberal) to occupy the White House. If bills did not conform to the constitution, he vetoed them. When powerful constituencies objected, he told them to elect someone else. He actually stayed up late reading the text of the bills he was given to sign or veto. When he talked about compassion, he meant a personal virtue, not the government’s dispersing other people’s money. His opposition to pork barrel spending and his commitment to reforming government seem amazingly sane, but beyond the comprehension of twentieth and twenty first century presidents.
