The Lyrics

This is nearly a true story: I couldn't find the function in Delphi to convert an integer to a real (floating point) number, as Delphi doesn't let you typecast from ordinal to real types. And it is actually the case that the Int() function takes an integer and returns a real... which is kinda strange, if you ask me
My programs came
Across from C
Written again
Into Delphi
Numeric types
With hex appeal
From bytes and floats
To the (sur)reals
But unlike C
BASIC as well
You can't cast floats
To integral
There's no typecast
So what's the deal?
How do I turn an
Int to real?

Searching through help files and FAQs
Googling over the 'net
Looking for number conversion routines
How damn obscure does it get?
Found StrToIntDef, and IntToStr back
One thing is missing, a definite lack:

No IntToReal
It's truly vile
No IntToReal
So won't compile

Trunc() goes from real to integer type
Round() function's somewhat the same
StrToIntDef of formatted string?
Efficiently-coded it ain't
Fin'ly the help file gave me a hint:
The counterintuitive answer is "Int()"

Int() returns real
No wonder I'm stressed
Int() returns real
I should have guessed

well, once I realised StrToIntDef had to be of formatted string, I would've just given up - keep fighting the good fight, Phil - 555

DKTOS, but a very funny read. I've struggled with similar peculiarities myself recently, so I know exactly how you feel.

Was on a mission to find out the same answer, your parody just helped me a great deal. How counter-intuitive. Int returns a real? What is the world coming to.

Absolutely fantastic - I think all coders have been in this situation in some way, but I never thought I'd see a Maiden song converted to describe it :)

The argument of Int() - function is of real type. But this song is funny ) good job)
