The Lyrics

I know the editors may be tempted to delete this one based on the weird band name, but this is why I include Youtube videos to go along with my videos. Anyways, the man has been hosting a parody contest about obsolete political parties, and since I'd never entered a contest before, I figured I'd give it a try. I wrote my parody about the Populist Party (and learned more about them in the process). You can pretty much guess their goals from reading this parody, but here's a little something to help you out in case you need further explanation. Enjoy the parody, and vote for Messrs. Weaver, Bryan, Baker, & Watson in the upcoming presidential election! DKTOS? (Don't Know The Original Song?)
I am a Populist,
And I’m a farmer too.
Our party’s cause is
Wholesome, just, & true.

We are opposed
To the standard of gold.
It’s bad for us,
And it is just too old.

We want no cap
On coinage of silver,
For we believe
It will make things better.

We have the best party,
No one else will beat us!
We’ll win peoples’ support
And they’ll jump on our bus!

I am a Populist,
And I’m a farmer too.
To our friends,
We give a big thank you!

The Democrats
Will not be first for long,
Republicans
Will not sing happy songs.

We want your votes
So we can win this race,
We pledge to make
This land a better place!

We want an income tax
That is graduated,
And we want senators
Directly elected.

I am a Populist,
And I am not alone.
In the elections,
The others will get pwned!

We’re just like you,
We’re regular people.
Do not believe
The other parties’ bull!

The government should
Control all the railways,
The telegraph lines,
And telephones, I say!

Civil service
Shall see some new reforms,
Eight-hour workdays
Will soon become the norm.

[Intervallo strumentale]*

I am a Populist
And I have sang my piece,
I hope that farmers’
Prices will soon increase.

I am campaigning
For you, for them, for all,
The Populists
Will never, ever fall!

When you go vote,
Remember this one thing:
The other parties
Can’t bring you what I sing…

(fade out, just like the party has done)
*="Instrumental Break" in English. Since the original song is italo disco, I thought I'd inject a little Italian flavor in here.

The Populists eventually got most of what they wanted, and most of what's wrong with the country now came from that. Libertarianism is the dream of undoing the 19th century Populist dream.

Gee, no wonder they died out.
