Original Performer:

Parody Song Title:

"I Guess That's Why We All Hit The Snooze"

Parody Written by:

Jeff Reuben

The Lyrics

Resubmitted, to fix a major typo (and changed the title a bit)
Too early to wake
Just want that clock to stop forever
Between work and school
I can honestly say
That sleep just sounds so much better

I grab me a rock
Pound on the button on top
Oh God please make it stop
Oh, cause it won't be long
Till I hear that alarm
Blare this song:

And I guess that's why
We all hit the snooze
Nine minutes more
With Penelope Cruz
Sex and a striptease
She's so disarming
But all too soon now, she'll be alarming
And I guess that's why
We all hit the snooze

Won't shower or shave
Won't brush my teeth, or my hair
Add precious seconds
With procrastination
And cologne so I don't smell bad

Screw my contacts
Sleep in my clothes if it helps
Don't need no breakfast
I'll catch me some Z's
Until that clock starts to yelp:

And I guess that's why
We all hit the snooze
Nine minutes more
To sleep off all that booze
Race down the stairway
Trip on a cat toy
Busting my backside, now I'm a sad boy
And I guess that's why
We all hit the snooze

While still half-awake
Pound on the button on top
Of that damn alarm clock
No luck, it's not gone
The radio's back on
Blaring songs:

And I guess that's why
We all hit the snooze
And for the girls
There'll be dreams of Tom Cruise
Dances and Cocktails
Top Guns a -firin'
But soon his talk will, change to a siren
And I guess that's why
We all hit the snooze

Dammit, you just want to get another set of 5's without having to work for it, didn't ya?

(SOTM05) Excellent parody, Jeff!

(SOTM)From the original parody ( my quote ):

I don't have an alarm clock so I can't relate. My cat just jumps on my head at precisely 5:55 a.m. every morning to wake me up. ;-)

I guess I needed the alarm clock vs cat to wake me that morning as I missed the typos/missing parts. Excellent work, and better parody title name 2nd time around. This should be recorded if it isn't already.

(SOTM) This one spoke to me, Jeff. I'm guilty of hitting the snooze once or twice myself.

(SOTM05) Guilty here too. :)

This raises a question I never had answered (OK, so I never actually asked it before). Why is that the snooze button defaul is always NINE minutes (I've had three myself, all with that setting), why not TEN (or fifteen, or twenty...)?
Ashkicksass - June 23, 2005 - Report this comment
First off, I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the original. Seriously, I love it. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this. Though not nearly as much as I love my snooze button...
Spaff.com - June 24, 2005 - Report this comment
Here's my highest compliment, Jeff: I wish Johnny D had thought of this first! Heh heh.

Actually, here's a higher one: I know the original well, but I still went out and tracked down the MP3 just to make sure I didn't miss a single thing. Honestly. That's how much I love you, man. Give me a hug.

Anyhoo, I'm glad I did. I'd forgotten how creepy the line "Laughing like children" sounds next to "Living like lovers."

As for the parody, I fully agree with what Sister Kicksass said. About the parody. Not necessarily the original. Still creeped out about that pedophilia thing.

"Nine minutes more with Penelope Cruz." Ha! High high high fives.
John Jenkins - June 25, 2005 - Report this comment

(SOTM) Yea, oh boy can I relate to this. I HATE (hold on let me try this bold feature) HATE mornings with a passion. Thankfully I have a patient wife who drags my sorry ass out of bed whether I like it or not. Anyways Jeff, excellent job on one of my favorite EJ songs. Tri-Fiveszzzz :)
Arwen - June 28, 2005 - Report this comment
SOTM--Honestly, this could be my theme song, Jeff. I LOVE it...=)
Stuart McArthur - June 29, 2005 - Report this comment
(SOTM) hmm, I was sure I'd commented, but it must've been on the first version - I absolutely love the take on the OS title with this title Jeff, and nine minutes more with Penelope Cruz still allows me about 7 minutes left for other adventures
Jake A Ralphing (Luke Brattoni) - June 30, 2005 - Report this comment
Great concept and executed with Reubenesque flair. 5:55? Toooo earrrly...

(ABC3-I) tripping on a cat toy would make a sad boy out of anyone, Jeff - I love this - it would have to be one of the classic amiright title subs

Matthias - May 11, 2010 - Report this comment
This one is a Jeff Reuben classic, so of course it's going to score big points with me. I've had that dream many a times, and I loved the switched terminology of "alarming" in this one.
Andria - May 14, 2010 - Report this comment
(Artistry) Well-done, and I don't have an alarm clock. I always roll out of bed or throw myself out while asleep and dreaming in the wee hours of the morning and stay up.
Below Average Dave - May 15, 2010 - Report this comment
I wasn't in the month this had been entered, but I've heard the recording, I can relate (My gold medalist "Tik Tok" can show just how much) The vision of you pounding on a cheap alarm clock with a rock is in my head now, it's pretty funny--love it

Lord Jeffry, ~Duke 0Yelp~ . . . I loved the 'clocks that yelp' line, Sir !
Rex - May 17, 2010 - Report this comment
(Artistry) I guess I'm the only morning person here - I usually wake up before the alarm goes off. So with that in mind, I have to ask -- what's a snooze button? This one gets my highest compliment: I wish Spaff had wished that Johnny D had thought of this first.
Max Power - May 18, 2010 - Report this comment
I got the snooze at 5 a.m.
bobpiecheese - May 22, 2010 - Report this comment
(Artistry) It's too dangerous to hit the snooze button on my alarm, seeing as how my alarm is my father. Classic work here, makes me think of Ed Byrne's bit on getting out of bed (look it up, it's hilarious). 555!
