The Lyrics

Did you ever buy one of those Mail-Order Ant Farms? If you did this probably happened to you. Seriously, the original song has one of Mark Knopfler's most affecting guitar solo's. I've put a lyrics link in the bottom comments also.
(Starts with Organ and Guitar Intro)

We bought Jay an Ant Farm
So that he could see
How ants work together
In ant colonies
We tried to return it
'Cause they got here all dead
But the company could not
Give refunds they said

(Guitar/background organ)

On those desolate ant hills
Lay all those dead bugs
We missed all their suffering
'Cause they died in the mail
And that really made Jay so mad
He said "drat" and "oh darn"
"Those idiots sent me
Croaked ants in my farm"

(Guitar solo/background organ)

There's so many different gifts
And some of them are fun
But we bought an ant farm
Damn, how could we be so dumb?

(Musical Interlude - Long guitar solo with background organ)

So the package came back here
It's in the garage
They said that it would be swell
That was just a big lie
There's no use staying uptight
Though I've still got some qualms
We're fools to have bought him
This stupid Ant Farm

(Longer Guitar Solo and Background organ instrumental to end)

Alvin - You know, when I decided to try and do this parody I wasn't sure if it would be very funny. This IS right up there with my favorite Dire Straits songs, depending on what mood I'm in it sometimes IS my favorite. After I did my parody lyrics' first draft I put on the CD to see how it matched up. Listening to Knopfler's near-whispered lyrics and his stark guitar solo's, then putting these lyrics to THAT really busted me up big-time...Thanks!

I keep thinking of that stupid Pink Panther joke (dead ant, dead ant, deadantdeantdead ant...). Great stuff! Nice original song, although my personal favorites are "One World" and "Your Latest Trick."

Mari D - Thanks! Are those Dire Straits songs? I'll to check them out...I'm becoming very found of Knopfler and company parody-wise. Their stuff seems to have just the right type of pace and lyric spacing and feel for it. I notice that Rick said you guys are still off-line at home. Hope that gets rectified soon...
