The Lyrics

I'm really not such a reactionary revisionist.....
I was a Space Invaders champ in '83
I had great Pacman skill and Pong dexterity
But these new consoles sure have made a fool of me
Oh wa-oh

Small children look at me with abject sympathy
As creatures from the breach of Doom devour me
I'm pushing buttons like a punch-drunk chimpanzee

Oh wa-oh.I'm such a loser
Oh wa-oh.Xbox abuser

Video games; they make me go "argghh!"
Video games; they make me go "argghh!"
Losing lives and losing heart
Oh wa-oh oh oh

I'm playing Grand Theft Auto, getting my a$$ capped
And even on SimDate, I'm sure that I'll get slapped
Stuck in the 80s, and I just can't adapt

Oh wa-oh.I'm really sorry
Oh wa-oh.bring back Atari!*

Video games; they make me go "argghh!"
Video games; they make me go "argghh!"
On a skateboard, in a car
I crash before I get too far
Oh wa-oh oh oh
Oh wa-oh oh oh

Video games; they make me go "argghh!"
Video games; they make me go "argghh!"

Load the disk and then press Start
The screen says "Welcome, Sad Old Fart"
Seconds pass, I'm torn apart
Want a refund from K-Mart.

Ooh-aah, I'm well below par
Ooh-aah, I'm well below par

Video games; they make me go "argghh!"
Video games; they make me go "argghh!"
(Repeat until you see GAME OVER)

* Yes, I know Atari is still around...I'm talking about the old-skool 2600s...aahh, memories...

Probably the best parody i've read recently. Do us all a favour and submit it for POTM. You really would be a sad, old fart if you didn't! 555 (sorry, i wanted to vote 10,10,10, but y'know...)
Olvan The Terrible - April 15, 2005 - Report this comment
I, too, share your feelings about contemporary video games, which in my opinion reached their pinnacle in the 16-bit era. Well-written parody, too.
Ravyn Rant - April 15, 2005 - Report this comment
This is really close to perfect...and I'm having Frogger flashbacks.

I never got past the Double-Eights pinball machine in college. It had this one magic spot-- you hit it, you got a free game. I milked that quarter for hours when I was a freshman. Sigh. Oh. Kristof--great parody and you get the ultra-super bonus 555!

I'm REALLY gonna have to think about this..:-).....John- OK, I will!! I've just about worked out how to play Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, and they go and bring out SCIII: Chaos Theory! The only video game I've been playing lately is Ms. Pac-Man. Every time I collide with a ghost (especially on the first maze) I can relate to the title of your parody.

By the way, great job on the parody. I totally enjoyed it. 5-5-5. :)

A couple of months ago I came across a software package that would basically allow you to install all of the old "Atari" games on your computer. I didn't pick it up because I really didn't have a desire to play pong on my system. Ah, but I digress, your song has certainly captured the spirit of those first primitive games. 555

555. I admit I loved the old games, although I don't play much of anything anymore. Great reminisce

They make you go "Arrgh!" ? Well, that means you must be playing.... "PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN". ;-)

Oh, I'm a bum who should have seen this sooner. Excellent work, Kristof Q-bertson. The refrain is a stretch, but I be wastin' too much time getting beat in everything from Q-bert to Burnout to not give ya 5s.

My name is Michael, and I'm a recovering arcadaholic. I'm been clean for about nine months, but soon it'll be summer, and that means boardwalk, and that means arcade... I gotta learn how to play blackjack and go to Atlantic City and play a real man's game instead of that penny-ante (well, quarter-ante) games in Point Pleasant. (The real one, not the phony town seen on Fox.) Even if "Skee Ballin'" by Claude Prez is still one of my all-time favorite Amiright songs, low-tech game though it is.

Great job! 555. The chorus/title made me laugh. This is really funny. You should, uh... write more like this

How can you repeat until you see game over?
Agrimorfee - January 12, 2006 - Report this comment
(ABC) Sorry I missed this the first time around. I can really relate to this...video games drive me batty as it is, but I can't get around the 12 or so buttons on the PS2 with all their functions and whatnot. I play retro-comps of Activision and Atari more often than anything else!
Adagio - January 16, 2006 - Report this comment
(ABC) Perfectly identifiable and it followed the music so easily. 5's at least
Matthias - January 20, 2006 - Report this comment
(ABC) Wow the best parody I've seen of this song, ever! And there sure are alot of them! 5 extra lives!
Red Ant - January 20, 2006 - Report this comment
(ABCV) How's I miss this one? I remember the Atari 2600, I went 3 of them. If Ataris had pause buttons and PS controllers I'd still be playing the same game of Yars Revenge I started 20+ years ago, with a score in the trillions by now. 555

(ABC) ARRGGH MATEY! ;-) SEE ABOVE, YE BLIGHTERS!
Stuart McArthur - January 21, 2006 - Report this comment
(ABC-V) yep, this is definitely one of your "unlucky-to-miss-SOTM-nomination" efforts Kristof. Not only funny but brilliantly paced - impossible to stumble on...and see above
Arwen - January 24, 2006 - Report this comment
ABC...wow...I totally dig this...=) Although, I have a horrible habit of getting really wrapped up in today's video games...where the ones of the eighties didn't bode so well in my book. That may be because I'm so much younger than you, KR, so I wasn't old enough to 'get' it when you were the reigning champ...; ) But I dig you...er...this anyway...

This parody is so awesome! To tell you the truth, I'm the exact opposite: I suck at old games and rule at new ones! 555
