I got my first RPG
Bought it at the mall, first time.
Played until my thumbs were red,
It was the winter of ’99.
Me and the guys from school
Got a link; we could trade/compete.
Game erased—next one got stolen,
I should’ve known I’d never complete.

But when I look back now,
That spring and winter seemed so epic.
Though, if I had the choice,
Guess I’d rather not repeat it,
Those were the best days of my life.

Ain’t no room for complaining
When you’re stuck in middle school
Spent my ‘tween days down in the dumps, hearin’
“Yo Pokemon’s not cool, yo!”

Playin’ with my GBC,
With its monochromatic colors.
Oh, and then we saw Advance,
I knew those days were gone forever.
They were the best days of my life.

Oh yeah,
Back in the winter of ’99,

Man, we trained Pidgey blind,
We were young and callow,
Thought level 12 was high.
I guess no fad can last forever…

And now the games are changin’
Look at everything in Diamond/Pearl.
Sometimes I’ll just play that old Gameboy,
Reminisce and catch some Poliwhirl.
