The Lyrics

For a while now, I, a Yankee Fan, have wanted to write "Bored With the Games at Shea." Say what you want about the Mets, but the 2006 edition is not boring. I saw them play the Giants on Sunday, June 4, a seesaw affair that lasted 12 innings. Barry Bonds got booed. So did the Giant closer, ex-Met goat Armando Benitez. Regardless of team, regardless of sport, New Yorkers have long memories.
Born in a suburban town.
The first kick I took was from a Dodger clown.
That team beat my Giants, beat us way too much.
So I needed me some steroids and some covering-up, now.

Booed in the game at Shea!
I was
Booed in the game at Shea!
I was
Booed in the game at Shea!
Now
Booed in the game at Shea!

Got into a little road-trip jam.
The fans of the Babe and Hank, they told me "Scram!"
Sent me off to a foreign land
but Montreal fans don't like this man, now!

Booed in the game at Shea!
I was
Booed in the game at Shea!
I was
Booed in the game at Shea!
Now
Booed in the game at Shea!

Went off to play in N.Y.C.
They said, "Bonds, if it's up to me
I woulda sent you off to Vietnam
'cause, Bonds, you don't understand, now!"

(instrumental break)

I had a brother, he's no good.
Didn't use steroids like I would.
I'm still there, swinging wood.

I had a woman back in Chicago.
Hope she don't tell grand jury what she knows.

Got booed so bad by fans in New York.
Waving foam asterisks, they're such dorks.
Ten years goin' down the road
into Cooperstown, I won't go, now!

Booed in the game at Shea!
I was
Booed in the game at Shea!
I was
Booed in the game at Shea!
I got 715, so suck on that at Shea, now!
Booed in the game at Shea!
I was
Booed in the game at Shea!
I was
Booed in the game at Shea!
I'm a steroid-pumped daddy who got booed at Shea, now!

(instrumental fadeout)
The one time I root for the Mets, and they still lose. Maybe I should root for them more often.

The Bonds meets The Boss.

I should've pointed out that Bobby Bonds Jr., like Ozzie Canseco, didn't take steroids like his brother, and didn't become a star in the majors. Like Ozzie, Bobby Jr. played for my hometown Newark Bears. Unlike Bobby Jr., Ozzie at least made it to the majors (24 games with Oakland and St. Louis), but is probably now best-remembered for impersonating his twin brother Jose in a softball game between "Surreal Lifers" and celebrity lookalikes when Jose was on "The Surreal Life."

Barry Bonds: So I suppose you expect me to walk?

Boldslinger: No-o-o Mister Bonds, I expect you to FLY!

Yep, I wouldn't buy stock in Bonds these days.
