The Japanese sub-culture of the Ama are known of their ability to mimic dolphins and dive deep. Interestingly, women make better divers than men because of their greater body fat percentage.

Patrick, don't dare me, I might... :-) Seriously, we were instructed never to land on water. It is immensely hazardous and tangling with the lines and/or canopy means easily danger by drowning. [Even if you were an ama.]

Wrong again Susanna. In WW2, German pilots and Fallschirmjaeger carried Fallmesser knives to cut lines in trees, cut tangled chutes, and to cut in a water landing like in the Channel, off Crete, and elsewhere. Post WW2, both the Bundeswehr and NVA of the DDR used Kappmessers for same purposes. Russian Spetsnaz has similar knife and all special forces of major powers train in HALOS which combines HALO jumps with water landings and scuba gear! There are also Special quick release harnesses to drop into water should a parachutist drift away from a LZ. A wingchutist can also land on water. FYI
