The Lyrics

This is a commentary on the evil religion (World Wide Church of God) I was brought up in. Charges of Anti-Semitism will be grossly incorrect. Please do some research on what I'm talking about. http://www.herbertwarmstrong.com/pain.htm
I never meant to be a pseudo Jew.
Herbert Armstrong & my parents forced me to.
Religions' not a choice, when you're a kid.
But at school they still called me a Yid!!

I remember when we skipped supper.
Our Hebrew friends call it Yom Kippur.
Yet we were told Jesus is the Lord.
Either way, 4 hour sermons made me bored!!

It was The Day of Atonement,
listening to my stomach growl,
Day of Atonement... (waiting for sundown)!

Then I realized, in, '82,
All religion is just, a bunch of poo!
Was it mine, or, my parents fault?
It's hard to think when you're raised in.....a cult!!

Because of The Day of Atonement,
I came to enlightenment,
Day of Atonement,.............it was all lies!!!

And when my tithe is gone, am I a goof?
How many nights will I read; The Plain Truth?
Why is God's word called "dangerous knowledge"?
While they get rich, selling, Ambassador College!?!

It was The Day of Atonement,
starving little children,
Day of Atonement,
Why isn't that sin?

Day of Atonement,
Day of Atonement,
Day of Atonement,
Day of Atonement,
Day of Atonement..................

Well-paced and thoughtful, even if some of the rhymes were awkward (granted, finding a legitimate English rhyme for "Yom Kippur" is hard). Original topic too...5-5-5.

Interesting song, and very interesting background on your part.

Very good - I can't see why you'd be worried about complaints of antisemitism, though: there's nothing anti-Jewish in this at all.

I was fearful the term "pseudo Jew" might offend. Some people are quick to claim anti-semitism over every little thing! WWCG was a "Christian" church that followed all Old Testament doctrin as well, including the Sabbath, dietary laws, Jewish holidays, etc.. It was still a cult.

It actually seems quite appropriate to me under the circumstances - but I know what you mean about the finger-pointing: sadly, we do live in that kind of world :-(
