The Lyrics

Plastic model, sailing on a string
Wobbling, cheesy dimestore thing
Matte lines flick'ring, done in half a day
We've all seen them, but our eyes avert
What we don't know, it can never hurt

Star Trek bloopers, forgivable slips
Catch a gaffe, blame it on the grips
Dialogue loopers, miss the moving lips
We've all seen them, wish we never had
What we don't know, can't be very bad

Speak to me of Shatner
Line pauses longer than minds can remember
The splitting up of each command
To ramble on in strange eccentric ways

I still remember those new shows on Thursdays
The "we were there first" days
The Nielsen ratings weren't so grand
Stories told in strange eccentric ways

George Takei, sits firmly at the helm
Secret knowledge of another realm
Walter K, as Chekov underwhelms
Though we know this, we pretend he's cool
Monkee hairdo, interstellar tool

At its best it's an hour of preaching dressed as sci-fi fairytales so clever
Social causes and human flaws enacted while the monsters entertain you
Relevant gist with a sci-fi twist so it's easy to sway the suits it's just illusion
The Great Bird of the Galaxy is a hack we know but he can show us--fusion

Shows rerun in summer
Third season dumber, "Spock's Brain" is a bummer
The studio has other plans
To fill our slot with junk at which to gaze
I still remember when Gene had a vision
Sci-fi television
That wasn't "monster of the week"
Now it's gone, and we've all parted ways

Did you ever notice in TOS that the Klingons looked like dirty Monguls ;-)

"Live long and prosper"-555!!! I remember when the old NCC-1701 used to get hit in space and that model was swinging by the wires! Add all the fake boulders, rocks, and the fake alien civilization back-drops along with the cheap sets... and you have the original series. But back then, ST was a cultural phenomenon with its multi-national and racial cast :)

Thanks for the comments! Funny how it only looks cheap in retrospect...when it was new, Star Trek looked sleek and modern. Same with today's sci-fi shows 45 years from now!
