The Lyrics

I was watching the documentary, "Shut Up And Sing" about the Dixie Chicks and the brouhaha that occurred after lead singer Natalie Maines told a British concert audience that she was "ashamed that the President of the United States was from Texas". Anyway, after being black-balled and boycotted by Country Radio they were trying to see how they could get their new songs out to the public and they asked their manager about MTV. He said, "Nope, they said you're too old to play on MTV". So that's where my parody idea originated.
Got told something; made you blow it
then you talked some sh*t about it
Your age is the reason; “That’s lame”, you howl
and then you grouse about it

Pissed me
This has made me mad, sir; I’m peeved – raving
Must concede; but don’t like it, indeed
Because I’m too old to have my hits on MTV
(I’m pissed; can’t get played on MTV)

I swear, then howl, “Hey, buddy this is bullsh*t”
and then groused some
“It smells, guy, that you won’t play my sh*t
Don’t you recognize my anthem?”

Told me, “That sh*t makes no difference to me, you see
ain’t nobody watching over eighteen
Your stuff is too old to schedule now on MTV”
(Moaned, said that I just could not believe)
Told me, “It blows, but you have to face reality”
(That’s such bullsh*t; now I’m really steamed)
NO!

Raving; had an outburst
I call that assh*le, “Motherf*cker”, I cursed
I howled and I squealed at dude
‘You dumb-ass rat-fink why don’t you just go get screwed?”

[instrumental break]

“Not fair”, I howled; then loudly told that pr*ck
that he was pond scum
Spew flowed, “I may kick your ass, chump”,
he jumped three feet away
knew I was mad, son
Mumbling – this dope really said this to me
“Your - Demographics just don’t fit MTV”
He said, “You don’t have the stuff to show on MTV”
(Don’t write your stuff for no pre-teen queens)
“Bro’, to those teens your songs sound like a novelty
(I said I found that hard to believe)
You should go home, old man, and make yourself a cup of tea”
(Now, man, I really am f*cking steamed)

[instrumental jam]

“Well, they just won’t play my videos on MTV”

[instrumental jam continues out to end fade]

It flows nicely the first verse, but I'm afraid after that you lost me. I think maybe there is just too much info there. It is funny, though, and definitely you were on to something with the concept.

Bonnie, I appreciate your looking in and commenting. Actually, this piece paces perfectly with the OS. I tend to write my pieces to include background chorus lyrics where I can distinguish them, so perhaps that was the cause of your confusion. Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it.

First MTV sighting? Hmmm...can't even remember it...nor my last, either...no cable now, so it's been a while.

I stumbled onto MTV recently, after years. Used to be music. What I saw was bisexual softcore.

"ain’t nobody watching over eighteen", isn't that the truth. MTV doesn't play music anymore, so there's no point in anyone making a video for them. 5s, and LOL at John's comment.

Perfect pacing. Paul...: ) ..I didn't realize how much cussing was on the overlay when you sent it. Good thing it's funny. It covers over that and other political stuff. 5's : )

Man, those Dixie Chicks have dirty mouths. I remember watching MTV the first year it came out. My grandparents thought it was going to melt my brain.

McKludge...Well, it might not have ALL the Dixie Chicks. I might have slipped into this piece somewhere or another...couple of places ~ ~ ~
