Right on! Great fun as usual! I find that taking a Walkman (with good rock music tapes in it) on shopping trips at this time of year is a sanity saver! Rick and I have deduced that you must be psychic, since you posted this one and the colonoscopy one (just like he did) on the same day! And are you a flutist, too?

I believe all human beings are "psychic" - Western culture just uses terms like "having a hunch", "having a gut feeling", "intuition", etc., to describe something that's just a normal and definitely NOT "paranormal" human capability. I'm no different from anyone else in that regard. But you knew I was going to say that, right? ;-)

Nope, I'm not a flutist, just a hard-core Moody Blues fan....seen 'em live in concert numerous times, too. Ask me about the time poor ol' Ray Thomas forgot the words to "Legend Of A Mind" at Great Woods in Massachusetts - hilarious!

"There are more things in heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." I am a hard-core flutist and also a Moody Blues fan. Ray is my favorite; Justin is cool but a bit on the "standard" side. Forgetting the words to "Legend of a Mind," would be fitting, considering the subject matter. What happened?

My wife and I were attending a Moody Blues concert at Great Woods (now called The Tweeter Center) in Mansfield, Massachusetts several years ago, and when the boys started "Legend Of A Mind", everything was going along fine until it came time for Ray to sing (I think, if my own memory serves me correctly!!) "Along the coast you'll hear them boast about a light they say that shines so clear..." etc etc, and Ray just lost it, couldn't remember the words, and kind of looked sheepishly at his fellow Moodies and the audience, waved his arms around, and feebly repeated some other lines of the song. Well, the audience laughed, and then the time came for Ray's wonderful, trippy flute solo in the middle of the song. Ray sat on a wooden stool in center stage, lifted his flute to his mouth, and just before beginning to play, said to the audience, "Let's see if I can screw THIS" ! It was a very human moment....Ray's flute solo was heavenly as always, and the show went on.

I especially love how, in concert, Ray will play a flute solo in "Legend Of A Mind" that is much longer than the one on the original "In Search Of The Lost Chord" album. The "Legend Of A Mind" flute solo Ray plays in concert goes off on wonderfully embellished tangents that have a dreamy, heart-wrenchingly emotional quality...I recall how Ray played that extra-long solo at a concert after Timothy Leary's passing - that particular "Legend" solo by Ray had an especially wistful and almost tear-jerking quality to it, as he went off on flowery, trippy, sweet tangents all over the place...it was as if he was playing it as a loving good-bye to ol' Doctor Leary...so beautiful !
