The Lyrics

A man does not fire a manager at 3:11 AM local time, 3,000 miles from home, while the hometown fans are mostly asleep and the hometown media has already filed their day's stories. Shame on the Mets for treating Willie this way.
There's a guy who played second base
and hit balls all around the place.
Fans of Yankees pass the time away
and talk about those times.

And there's a team, plays across the town
and they're staffed by a bunch of clowns.
Liked the way he coached, they said come around.
But treated him a crime.

And first they said
"Randolph, you're a fine guy.
What a good skip you would be.
Lead the Mets, and we'll win a title, you and me."

Randolph, he had David Wright
and Carlos Beltran to play for him each name.
He also had Jose Reyes' game
and plenty of pitching, too.

They came, in oh-six, so close.
In oh-seven, a big-time lead they blows.
And they made it clear, Met fans, they knows
not much, and they tell him true:

The Met fans say,
"Randolph, you're a dumb guy!
What a manager, lousy!
Well, you're stuck with the kind thinking that's Yankee!"

Yeah, Randolph used to hear these guys
who just can't get straight their stories!
He could feel their anger high-rise
because he was once Torre's.
But they will not listen to the truth
and he was an honest man.
And Randolph does his best to understand!

Tonight, when the bars close down
Randolph knows he's still loved in this town
by Yankee Fans, he should come around.
We'll cheer him on Old-Timers' Day.

The fans will say,
"Randolph, you're a fine guy!
What a good time, you gave me!
But none better than when you proved Met fans
couldn't see!"

"Yeah, Randolph, you're a fine guy!
What a good time, you gave me!
But none better than when you proved Met fans
couldn't see!"
I realize there's some grammatical and tense mistakes in there, for the convenience of rhyme, which undermines my message that "Met fans are dumb," but it wasn't Willie's fault that a lot of good players got hurt, and a lot of the guys he was given to replace them just weren't good enough, and some of the guys who were supposedly sensational players (Wright, Reyes, Beltran) weren't good enough, either. He'll get another managing job, and I hope he wins the whole thing. (Unless it's with Boston. Or L.A.)

Just curious...why "Randolph, You're a Fine Guy", and not "Willie, You're a Fine Guy"? I would think that has more proximity to "Brandi", flow-wise. 555

Sad but true. The manager is made to be a scapegoat when the team slumps

It ain't over 'til it's over and I think it's over for this guy. Nice write Michael. I've always liked this OS and you did it justice. 5 hits, 5 runs 5 errors as they say at the end of the half inning.

I don't know if Randolph is a good manager, but the way he was fired deserved a spoof. Few, if any parodists, would have done it better.

Most of the voicers in the NY Post opinion section agrees except one guy who decides to play Lupica.
