The Lyrics

Businessmen just seem to find out early
How their way of life depends on oil
The rich old men never have to worry
There's no way for those fossil fuels to spoil

Late in life, they find their wells are drying
I guess every form of profit has its cost
And it takes them to a point - they're close to crying
To think that when they've used a source, it's lost

So they buy themselves a government position
With lofty-sounding issues like "free trade"
But we are all aware of their real mission
They want to make sure they keep getting paid

You can't hide your love of war
And we know it's been shown before
Thought by now you'd know for sure
There ain't no way to hide your love of war

On the morning of the 9th day of September
The World Trade Centre just got blown away
It's a trigger everybody will remember
'Cause the War On Terror's gone on since that day

They were quick to point the finger at Osama
But he disappeared and won't be found again
So as if to hide the weakness in their armour
They'll make up for it and bomb Saddam Hussein

You can't hide your love of war
And we know it's been shown before
Thought by now you'd know for sure
There ain't no way to hide your love of war

They'll be quick to dress up this new occupation
As for democracy and human rights
But the oilfields are their prime preoccupation
It's the reason that they keep on starting fights

They wave the flags and keep on shouting "trust us"
While the Middle East is featured on TV
But they ain't exactly implementing justice
When the cameras go back home over the sea

My oh my, you sure know how to arrange things
You're now set up for life with that black gold
Ain't it funny how your leaders never change things
Your wallet's full but your heart's gone stone cold

You can't hide your love of war
And we know it's been shown before
Thought by now you'd know for sure
There ain't no way to hide your love of war
There ain't no way to hide your love of war
Honey, you can't hide your love of war

The World Trade Center was hit on 9/11, not 9/9. Otherwise, while I think that your focus on oil as the cause of the war is overdone, this is a very well constructed parody.

Ditto John's comment. Otherwise, a well-written parody - I voted you up a notch. And hey -- you do ride a bicycle in lieu of driving a car, right? ; - )

If this were a war for oil all the US would have to do is stop supporting Israel and any oil worries would be history. Israel doesn't export oil - most of it's enemies do. The fact is, US interests - while certainly including the security of energy resources - encompass far more. Iraq, Iran and other middle eastern countries present a long term threat to us because the Islamic world rightly remembers when it was the great world superpower. Since they have the economic means to acquire WMD and the associated technology, they will one day have the military means to regain that status. That is a threat, and it is one we cannot wait to mature before acting to prevent it. Anyway, the parody is funny and a good selection for the subject at hand. So politics aside, good job!

I don't drive a car. I use public transport when I need to go anywhere.

Aargh. I'm so used to a date starting 9- being a 9th, I just didn't think.
