The Lyrics

Perhaps the greatest of all Amiright songs is "The Wreck of Ben Affleck and J.Lo," by Spaff.com. In the middle of this number, a parody of "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" (hey, I can't do them all), he drifts for a moment into "Rocky Raccoon." Ever have that problem? See how many great song lines you can identify. (Aside from the original song, of course.)
(instrumental opening)

Information superhighway.
Brain under my hair.
Warm parody ideas
rising up through the air.
Up ahead in the distance
I saw a shimmering light.
My head grew heavy and my site grew dim.
Forever's gotta start tonight!

And as I paced through the doorway
I heard the old doorbell.
In walked a giant of a man
that the miners knew well.
Then I lit up a candle.
It blew out in the wind.
Then he told me over and over
and over again, my friend:

Welcome to this song I'm writing for ya.
Such a lovely tune.
(Such a lovely tune.)
The end is coming soon.

Plenty ideas in this song I'm writing for ya.
Don't raise your eyes, man.
(Don't raise your eyes, man.)
Only teenage wasteland!

Oh, Lord won't you buy me
a brand-new Mercedes-Benz?
(NO!)
I could get by with a little help
from my old friends.
How we danced in the courtyard.
Sweet summer sweat.
Too few for me to mention
are all my regrets.

So I called up the captain.
"Are you still alive?"
And he said,
"We haven't had that spirit here
since 1975."
And still those voices were calling
from far away.
Wake me up in the middle of the night.
Would not drift away, hey!

Welcome to this song I'm writing for ya!
Such a melody!
(Such a melody!)
Babe, won't you set me free!

We're lighting it up with this song I'm writing for ya!
Red and blue and green!
(Red and blue and green!)
Gotta make the scene!

Mirrors on the ceiling.
Didn't need any more.
And she said,
"With a word I can get anything
that I was coming for."
And to the master's chambers
we headed for the feast.
He failed to unlock the big oak door
because fallin' is the keys!

Last thing I remembered
I was running for the door.
Went into gym where baskets hang.
I can't shoot them anymore!
"Relax!" said old Frankie.
"We are programmed for relief.
You can write up anything you like
but just don't stop belief!"

(long, long guitar close)
You don't win anything if you get them all. OK, you can write a total clunker and I'll still five it.

It's a meta-parody ... and I haven't yet-a met a meta-parody that I didn't like!

I got Barry (not John) and most of the rest of it left me perplexed. But I did catch what you were trying to do... :-)

Let's see....I got (and not necessarily in this order) Relax, Baba O'Reilly, Candle in the Wind, Eve of Destruction, Oh Lord Won't You Buy Me a Mercedes Benz, Big John, With a Little Help From My Friends, My Way. I know there are more just on the tip of my tongue but, I'm brain-dead from a rough day at work today. Great idea and parody, Mr. Pacholek. 555

You got about half of them, Rick. There's also "Total Eclipse of the Heart," "Drift Away" (figured that one would be easy), "You Keep Me Hangin' On," "Party Lights," "Stairway to Heaven," "Fallin'," "Knockin' On Heaven's Door," "Don't Stop Believin'," and, of course, "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" (which, in real life, happened in 1975, and the song came out a year later).

You lost me with the first line ---- "Information superhighway" has 8 syllables ---- "On a dark desert highway" has 7. This is the second parody of yours that I have read today that is off, right from the start. I don't get it Michael; I thought you may be over the attempts to write a lot of parodies at the expense of writing good ones. I guess I was wrong about you even wanting to do that some day. Oh well.... I guess quantity is still king with the king,
