Parody Song Title:

"Pachelbel"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

The "Pachelbel Progression" - I-V-vi-iii-IV-I-IV-V - is one of the ubiquitous musical progressions, along with Donald Duck Progression (I-vi-IV-V), Andalusian Cadence (vi-V-IV-III7) and Four Chords of Pop (I-V-vi-IV). The Pachelbel's Canon is an earworm of the worst kind. The progression is named after Johann Pachelbel's "Canon in D Major", and I noted some times ago that Let It Be follows it. Sigh...
When I find my ears in deepest trouble,
It's Pachelbel that's bugging me
See you in the Hell,
Pachelbel!

And in this mood of madness,
he is playing right in front of me
Earworm, I can tell,
Pachelbel!

Pachelbel, Pachelbel, Pachelbel, Pachelbel!
Canon in D major, Pachelbel!

When I watch the Monty Python
and their "Decomposing Composers" -
What do I then hear?
Pachelbel!

Even Pet Shop Boys ain't safe -
just think about the song "Go West" -
Your eardrums, yes, will tear -
Pachelbel!

Pachelbel, Pachelbel, Pachelbel, Pachelbel!
You are everywhere - Pachelbel!

Pachelbel, Pachelbel, Pachelbel, Pachelbel!
Be it rock or baroque - Pachelbel!

Pachelbel, Pachelbel, Pachelbel, Pachelbel
That's swear word in German - Pachelbel!

Should I hum the "Sreets of London"
or sing the Soviet Anthem-ee
it is all the same,
Pachelbel!

I wake up to the sound of music,
yes, that tune, it comes to me
Playing chords of wisdom,
Pachelbel!

Pachelbel, Pachelbel, Pachelbel, Pachelbel!
There will be progression -
Pachelbel!

I once saw an advertisement in a magazine for a record of the month club mail order promotion. As an introductory offer, they would send you a disk of Pachelbel's Canon in D Minor, which they described as one of the most relaxing musical compositions of all time. Allegedly, if a radio station played it, people would call to find out what it was. Used as theme music in several movies. It does have a calming effect. Have you ever heard The English Congregation "Softly Whispering 'I Love You'"? Sounds like Joe Cocker walked in on the recording session to break it up.

Why has everyone on this site stopped allowing comments? That is half the fun of reading it, and one of the principle reasons I write parodies.

I agree! I appreciate all the comments and feedback - they mean me more than any votes. Only the comments can really tell if I have succeeded or not, and it is a kind of a social occassion to discuss over the song within the comments. I always allow commenting.

When my late mom-in-law had her funeral services last summer, we chose Pachelbel's Canon as the last musical piece on the services. It has very calming and optimistic atmosphere, celebrating a fully lived life with hope of seeing again.

Patrick: In the context of your comment, the word is "principal." Your latest error goes beyond spelling. To paraphrase a principle of Socrates, "The ungrammatical life is not worth living."
Oh Really? - October 13, 2013 - Report this comment
@Spellcheck "Foolish consistency is the hob-goblin of little minds"- Emerson. Spellcheck has the audacity to imply that he/she has never made a spelling nor grammatical mistake in his/her life. Utter BS as all writers have made mistakes, even the best in the world which Spellcheck is guaranteed- NOT. Let's see this person's parodies to "spellcheck" them... oh wait, but we can't b/c this person is too yellow to post a real name. How brave of the mouse warrior critic! And quoting Socrates in what way elevates your stature as a self-described "spellchecker?" Your comment is beyond petty. Patrick is an established parodist on AIR and a damn good one IMHO. So, WHO ARE YOU??? Btw, 555 for Susanna who is also a wonderful parodist that speaks multiple languages and serves her nation- 5s. Now go away Spellcheck-mated ;-)

@Oh Really?: Don't ask who I am. WHO ARE YOU, mouse warrior??? By the way, the penultimate sentence of your idiotic comment should read "Btw, 555 for Susanna, another wonderful parodist, WHO speaks several languages, and who serves her nation."

Are you suggesting that consistently correct spelling and grammar are foolish? And do you stupidly advocate the interchangeability of "principle" and "principal"? Obviously, the closest you ever got to Emerson was the table radio of that name. Now get off my back, illiterate fool!

So many times I craft a line or a clever word play to see if I can get a reaction. Now I see that all I had to do was misspell a word. I'll remember that the next time, or maybe not.
