Song Parodies -> "The Wrong Untimely Joke"

Original Song Title:

"The Long and Winding Road"

Original Performer:

The Beatles

Parody Song Title:

"The Wrong Untimely Joke"

Parody Written by:

Merry & Pippin

The Lyrics

The wrong, untimely joke
That leaves you appalled
I wish I could repeal
My humor's closed the door
It always seems three beers
Leads to gaffs galore

I tried to fix my slight
That I'd made, watch me pray
"Can I roll back the years,
Least to yesterday?"
God glee-ly adds despair
Laughs and says "No way"

Foolish I had seen my joke
'Bout hookers who were blind,
Bed of nails and lederhose
Was many ways, refined

You chilled me with a thwack
On my wrong-rhyming dome
I'm reprimanded here
A Gong Gong sort of show
Can't b'lieve my prating, sere,
Stinking jocu-lore...

Oh will you plead my lack
Of aplomb to out hosts?
Bereft of 'standing' here
At cocktail time of toasts (skoal!)
Perceive I'm redd'ning here
Slinking to the door

Bleh bleh bleh bleh...

Great job, Hobbits...perfect OS for your subject matter, and the title alone made me giggle!

thanks for turning one of the worst beatle songs ever into something enjoyable...5s

Here's a very embarrased grin at your funny parody. : D

Good job! My favorite line is "a gong gong kind of show". 555

Beats the hell out of the Bee Gees' "I Started a Joke."

I'm Sick of this Bull-Shit , I write good work , and someone like you gets comments galore , it's ridiculous...by the way , the idea for this parody is lame!

Okay, nobody ever got anywhere on this site by talking to the Hobbits like that, Mister. Seriously. It's called being a poor loser. And there just isn't room for it around here.

Also...as a helpful hint...nobody ever gets anywhere in LIFE until they learn the proper spacing before and after commas.

Thank you , Arwen ,for your-show OF suP,port. It, is ,appreciated. And you probably put it better than I would have after reading Mr H's comments.

Chris? Was this parody in particular a problem for you, or were M&P just the lucky winners of your bad mood for the day? I am sorry if the parody doesn't appeal to you, but just because it has some comments makes it ridiculous? "Someone like us"? Like who? Do you know who you are talking about? It's a slightly bizarre way to ingratiate yourself with others!

As for the idea being lame, well, it was mine, and I actually quite liked it, so there, nyaaah :-p

Besides, it got past the approval committee (Merry) and lemme tells ya, that ain't no mean feat!

There's another version...? ;) Btw, it sounds like a someone up there ^^^ has bad case of the green eyed monsters !!! As usual, a faultless piece of prose...funny, witty and perfectly paced.

This is about the Duke of Edinburgh, right? ;-)

The strange thing about humor though, is that one person can see it as untimely while another thinks it's brilliant. I'm sure some were apalled by John Cleese's "Dead Graham" eulogy, which was in fact (in my humble estimation) the perfect sendoff. At least, that what I tell myself when my jokes fall flat. :-) BTW, good job, although you forgot to mention the one about the nun with an arrow through her head.

Priceless!! But I do agree with Arwen about being a 'sore loser'.

Thank you everyone for your support. It is ironic that I looked at 2 of Chris' parodies yesterday, but on the one I did not know the OS, and on the second was not familiar with the subject matter, so I did not vote on either as I felt I could not do justice to voting fairly under those circs.

We've done our share of bad parodies, but altho' this is far from one of our best; I would not classify it as 'bad'. I thought Pippin's subject line for the title was excellent, and I believe we did a reasonably good overall job.

But as Rex pointed out, everyone has their own sense of humor, and what is funny to one person may not be funny to another. Heck, Pip and I have that problem all the time with our own endeavors... :-D

Philbo : Yes, Phil the Greek has made his share of gaffs down the years, hasn't he? His oldest son is a chip of the ol' block in that regard also :)
