The Lyrics

I'd like to ad my voice to the chorus critisizing FEMA's lack of preparation and slow response to Hurricane Katrina. This letter is to be sung to the tune of "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down". My apologies to J. R. Roberson, the rest of the Band, Bob Dylan and Joan Baez.
Taylor Crane is the name, and I treated patients over at Tulane
Til' so much water came, spillin' from Pontchartrain.
In the summer of '05, isolated, just rumors arrive.
On the third day the generators failed,
It was a time, I remember oh so well.

The week FEMA let ol' Dixie drown,
All the levees were breaking.
The week FEMA let ol' Dixie drown,
And the president's on vacation.
He said,
Da, da, da, da, da, da, working real hard, da, da, da, da, da.

My wife was visiting Biloxi, trying to e-mail me.
Taylor you won't believe, the coast got swept out to sea.
Now I don't mind saving gas, I know that good times weren't meant to last.
They make me spend every cent I had.
But they shouldn't keep all the reserves in Baghdad.

The week FEMA let ol' Dixie drown,
And the levees were bustin'.
The week FEMA let ol' Dixie drown,
And the mayor was cussing.
He said,
Fa, fa, fa, fa, fa, fa, FEMA where the hell are ya, fa, fa, fa, fa, fa.

Like my father before me, I've used a votin' booth
And like my neighbor above me, I'm stranded on this roof.
He's got three kids and a wife.
Everything else been swept from his life.
I swear by all this mud and mange,
Ya can't save folks by denying climate change.

The week FEMA let ol' Dixie drown,
And the dome was seethin'.
The week FEMA let ol' Dixie drown,
No refugees were leavin'.
We sing,
La, la, la, la, la, la. La, la, la, la, la, la. La, la.

The fact that the Army Corps of Engineers intended to enlarge and strengthen the levees around NO back in 1996, but were prevented from doing so by a lawsuit filed by environmentalists led by the Sierra Club seems to have been overlooked.

To be expected, I guess, when there's a guy named Jerkoff running Homeland Security. My mistake, it's Chertoff. Or is it?
