SOUND OF SILENCE

Hello freedom my old friend,
It's good to have you back again.
We've been in lockdown now far too long,
And for most the rules in place were wrong.
It was quiet all around and it was strange
To rearrange
To bear the sound of silence.

Throughout the land we walked alone,
It was no fun on our own.
With the ease down of the lockdown rules,
And with children being back in schools,
All the noise in the playgrounds is something we want to hear,
At last we cheer.
No more the sound of silence.

As for the restaurants and the bars,
At last their parks are full of cars.
People chatting as they're drinking,
Does it matter what they're thinking?
Couples swapping tales of things that they've been through,
Well, wouldn't you?
Forget the sound of silence.

With people now at work full time,
It seems that they're back in their prime.
Having funds they didn't have before,
Only wishing that it could be more.
But at least, they're now happy in their mind
That they have left behind the silence.

It's time to thank all those out there,
Who gave their precious time to care.
We're so grateful to the NHS,
And to others who cleared up the mess.
I just know that key workers are the ones who now know that their work is done,
And everyone
Will now enjoy the sound of silence.
