Song Parodies -> "Sicilians"

Original Song Title:

"Cecilia"

Original Performer:

Simon & Garfunkel

Parody Song Title:

"Sicilians"

Parody Written by:

Merry & Pippin

The Lyrics

M&P are on a bit of a Cecilia kick! Here's another, done in "DiRito" style - the title will tell you enough for that statement to make sense. What’s a day without some good stereotyping? As an experiment, we invited Guy to submit a parody of the same title to the same tune - and he has not seen ours. Competition is not the aim, the aim was to see if they were constructed similarly or differently.

If all works out, Guy should have submitted an identical title today - please view that one as well. Should any consiglieres be reading these parodies, please note Guy has done *heaps* of these and he lives in Texas! We are hobbits, we don't live anywhere!

A low-bitrate mp3 of the song can be found here.
Sicilians, you're breaking my arms
You're making my concrete shoes weighty
Those Sicilians, they’re drilling my teeth
And pegging my ears to some ohms

Sicilians, forsake body parts
And brake lines on cars ‘fail’ daily...
Those Sicilians, they do as they please
I'm begging you Vito - no blows
On my nose

Ticked off Don and it made him fume
Then Sicilian attitude, it loomed
Why, bat re-arranged my face
Then I found horse’s head
In my bed to embrace

Sicilians, dough raking’s your art
I’m checking my car for bombs daily
Oh Sicilians, I frown to displease
Protection-y fees I do owe
And my loan

Cosa Nostra
They cuff me again
To Pauly and Vinnie no sassing

Used persuasion!
They rough me up and
I fall on the floor from my bashing...

M & P - Amazing. I'm getting my first look since you guys did not share a copy and made me wait. This is excellent. You guys thought of a lot of things that I did not but the theme is the same Sicilianos are bad to the bone. I didn't get the GF movie into my head when I wrote mine since I think I had used the horse head, Moe Green special and a lot of other things in the other parodies. Just couldn't seem to come up with a new angle so I just remembered how bad these guys were whose parents were from Sicily that I went to school with. I fought more with those guys than any other group. But then they didn't like anyone who wasn't Sicilian. They didn't even like to tolerate your garden variety of Italian. Carmine sends his approval. Amen!

What fun...on both of these! HEy....someone, start a double-dare thread, with the same concept as M&P/Guy did, to parody the same song with the same idea. 555...but Guy was a notch better just because I don't see mobsters referrring to noise torture in terms of ohms....they'd think you were Cockney, since a 'ouse is not an 'ohm...eh well, belabored joke from Aggy out.

Ag - Homes 'Ohms - nice joke but I think they may have been referring to a character like one that I invented named Carmine (2-LOUD) Boccatesta. Carmine like most Sicilians and Italians like to talk loud. I had some uncles who were extremely loud. My dad's next older brother always hosted Christmas Eve dinner for the entire extended family. I was quite a noisy affair. I can remember inviting some non Italian friends to dinner on several differnt Christmas Eves - anybody and everybody was welcomed when the family feasted. After sitting through several hours of eating and yelling the dinner would be over. My friends always asked me why my uncles were so angry and yelling at the table and at each other. I really had a hard time convincing some of them that this was somehow normal and no one was angry. But what seemed normal to me looked quite different to the untrained eye or should I say ear. So my "Carmine" character actually has some validity So this is why I think the ohms line is in there - not torture - just loud mouthed.

Guy, the contributions I made to the M&P version were largely media-based stereotypical items - Godfather, horse's head, Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro movies et al. Over here, the mafia thing isn't that strong - except maybe in some parts of Melbourne, ha ha. If Stu sees this, he could possibly confirm/deny.

Where I live, the Triads are more of a potential problem :(

Agri, ohms? Struggling for a rhyme, as you can see :) You didn't know Mick and Keef were in the mafia did ya?

Yours, and Guy's ...both fine writes...
Guy - June 23, 2008 - Report this comment
(M&P) Pip - Yeah but you and Merry did a fine job with those sterotypes. I did notice that in some places we hit on the same stuff. ie - "do as they please" refs are in both parodies. Being polite - Yours refs "no sassing" - mine refs "Don't bring disgrace" Both say it is in the charter that one must always dress neat and be polite to those above you in the peckling order. The general macho attitude these guys exude and at the end our characters both fall to the ground - yours from a bash and mine from a stab. Then there is the part about parts - body parts - both parodies reffed this. It is no wonder that I miss old parodies that you guys do and I come up with the same idea and it looks like I've copied you guys but I know you know better. This sort of gives credence to that fact. GMTA. To be quite honest, I like yours better than mine.

555! Glad to see you're still among the living after posting this. I thought the first verse was the best followed by the horse's head reference!

I love this, ahhh, a little fresh stereotyping in this pc age. I voted a score you can't refuse. Just don't let your feet get bigger than your head. Oops, sorry, that's very hobbitist.

I have no time for PC. Except the one I am sitting at. PC makes my life and most of my working life unworkable, in a 'reality' context. Life's too short. Most inane social concept of the modern world. Has its place, sure. But like everything else, it's overdone.

I never give up hope that one day I will wake up and find it's all been a bad dream/terrible mistake/big joke. Or all three! /rant
