The Lyrics

Eric VG had a great observation about the affinity of "Bohemian Rhapsody" and Shakespeare. Why, the song is very like a Shakesperean soliloquy. Observe.
Is this poor Yorick
Is this that "whoreson knave*"
Well did I know him
No escape from the churchyard grave
Gone are his eyes, where be his jibes for me
I'm just a Dane boy, I face mortality
Cause you're easy come,easy go
Born on high or born low
Anyway your life goes, it shall be the graveyard
For thee

Yorick, unearthed you, man
Were a man of endless jest
Your comic fancies were the best
Yorick, on your back I rode
And then you'd set the table on a roar
Yorick, oooooh .. where now be your jibes
If I keep holding your skull until tomorrow
How abhorred, how abhorred
You shall be in my grey matter

Too late, my gorge is raised
Sends shivers down my spine
Throat is gagging all the time
Goodby, merry jester, no jokes from you
Gonna toss your foul remains back in this hole
Yorick, ooooh, I sense that I'll soon die
Sometimes I wish I'd never spared the King at all

I see the rotting skullin-etto of a man
Whoreson fool, whoreson fool, will you do one last gambol
Court intrigue and fighting, very very frightening me
Well I knew him, well I knew him
Well I knew him, well I knew him
Well I knew him, knew him so
Horatio!

I'm just a Dane boy, nobody loves me
He's just a Dane boy, from the royal family
Spare him his part in that bloodbath last scene
Easy come, easy go, will you let me go
Prince Hamlet, no, we will not let you go (let me go)
Prince Hamlet, we will not let you go (let me go)
Prince Hamlet, we will not let you go (let me go)
Will not let you go, let me go
Never let you go, (let me go) never let you go
No, no, no, no, no, no, NO
Oh my Ophelia, my Ophelia
My Ophelia, let me go
Beloved fool was a symbol in disguise to me
To me, To ME!

So you think you can stare at me without your two eyes
So you think you can make me accept that I'll die
Oh, Jester, cant do this to me jester
Just gotta get out, just gotta into next scene

Blood will soon be splattered
In this tragedy
Kingdom will be shattered, kingdom will be shattered
By me

(Anyway your life goes)

I think one of the significant points of the graveyard scene is that Hamlet finally accepts the inevitability of death, which steels him to do the bloody work he needs to do to restore the integrity of the throne and avenge his father ......... *The gravdigger who identified Yorick called him a "whoreson" mad rogue (ie, a bastard)

Hmm I wonder ... Is this not "to be" .. Or is it "not to be" ... Caught in some court strife ... No escape from soliloquy

I just have a knack for doing this song John (and Jon). I've done it four times previously, and all four got rave reviews -- Brohemian Rhapsody (the baby brother's lament), Mohammedan Rhapsody, Gollumian Rhapsody (one of my very best) and Edmundian Rhapsody (If Queen had written "Wreck of the Edmund FitzGerald") ..... I've also got one, and perhaps two more of these Shakespearean twists buzzing around in my brain

One of my favorite songs to parody...great concept and execution!

Thanks, Leough (and John and Jon). Bohemian Rhapsody has such a strong and unique opening that you'll big laughs right off the bat if you stick the opening sub; and then you got comic momentum for the rest of the parody. So, yeah, it's a great song to parody.

Nicely done 5's. Good job of mashing Shakespearean story's tragedy with Queen's operatic saga. Very admirable work which I would not have had the patience to ever attempt. Mostly because while I admire Queen's work on Boh-Rhap, I really don't care to listen to it anymore.

One suggests the other. I got the idea for this from a one time poster who claimed Bo Rhap tracked the tragedy of MacBeth. Wasn't too familiar with MacBeth but I had recently re-read Hamlet. And instantly "Is this poor Yorick" jumped into my head
