The Lyrics

Thought of writing this just yesterday, when the general elections in the Philippines has just been closed. It was a historical one, since it's the first time that it was done using computer terminals instead of the oldschool manual way. Still it was not without bloodshed and fraud, as greedy jerks still managed to intimidate and harass in order to win a seat. This is what an average voter feels about the polls...
Is this the real life?
Hope it's not travesty.
Won in a landslide,
Others wept from a tragedy.
Opened my eyes
Shade circles in sheets and give
Feed in the black box, filled with anxiety
Of course, most people come, people vote
People cried, some lay low,
Who will win the big polls, that will really matter to me
To me...

Noynoy, some Senate guy,*
They want him to rule the land
Was reluctant, now he stands
Manny, spent a hundred grand**
But now he's broke and criticized away
Mama, ooh,
Certain people bled and died***
Corrupt men tried to rig the grand election
Some at loss, some the boss, and it really really matters

Too late, the poll was done,
It's chilling down my spine
When I tried to vote that time
People flocked at rallies, of candidates
Spending grands to woo the folks and hit the hoods
Mama oooh... (any way the vote goes)
I just want to try,
To choose and wish the polls would go well at all

I see on papers, kingpins, greedy, selfish men
Comelec, Comelec, hope it won't be a failure
Slaughter, fraud and fighting, very very frightening me!
Filipino! Filipino!
Filipino! Filipino!
Filipinos went to vote.
Politico!
But I'm just a poor boy and I love my country.
He's just a poor boy weary of politics
Tired of a life full of atrocity!
People come, people vote, will you let me vote?
Hindi na! No, we will not let you vote!
Let him vote!
Hindi na! No, we will not let you vote!
Let him vote!
Hindi na! No, we will not let you vote!
Let him vote!
Will not let you vote!
Let me vote!
Will not let you vote!
Let me vote!
No, no, no, no, no, no, no!
Mama mia, mama mia, mama mia let me vote!
The Comelec has a ballot put aside for me, for me, for me...

Politicians can't fool me and poison my mind
I don't think they can use me and leave me to die
Oh, Manny, goes to show you're a phony.
Guess who really won, guess who really won outta here.

I was really anxious,
Who will win the race?
Who will rule my country?
That will really matter to me,

Any way my vote goes....
* Noynoy Aquino, son of the late Senator Benigno Aquino, whom was assassinated in 1983, and a presidential candidate
** Manny Villar, former senator and presidential candidate; literally spent a mother lode of green on his campaigns

Unusual topic for a song. Just imagine if the passions of our political process were translated into the kind of violence one sees in other countries. I have read that during the Philippine election cycle it is forbidden even for the police and military to carry arms. Not that that seems to make much difference. A most educational parody, today.

Nice job on an obscure, for domestic consumption, topic.

Well done. May the 57 victims of the Maguindanao massacre not have died in vain.

Yeah, the Maguindanao massacre was appalling beyond belief. No sane person could pull off such a horrifying murder. Not even a rabid Grand Theft Auto fan like me.
