Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Bohemian Rhapsody was one of those songs that got stuck in my head when I was young and the song was in the charts. I wrote this song about Freuds formitive years and his use of cocaine. I hope that you enjoy it.
Freudian Rhapsody

Is this the real thing?
Is this the drug for me?
Bought a gram of cocaine hydrochloride
From the local apothecary.
It opened my eyes
I dosed up so high on C!
Now i'm just a cokehead, I need this chemistry
Because it's easy on coke, easy to know
All the little things I don't know
Anyway I'll take another blow, and it really matters
To me
To me

Martha, just killed a gram
Snorted till my nose bled
I feel like a new guy in my head
Martha, my high has just begun
But still your parents wont let you marry me
Martha ooo,
Didn't mean to get too high
If I'm not down from this high by tomorrow
I'll dose on, dose on cause this coca really matters

Couldn't wait, the time had come
To publish my new find
"On Coca" was presented just in time
I'm so high everybody; I've got work to do
Gonna get real snow-blind and seek the truth
Coca ooo- (always up the nose)
I love to get so high
I sometimes wish I'd never come down at all-

Carl Koller:
I need a little anesthetic for this eye surgery

Freud:
Just a drop, just a drop, will numb it quite fantastic

Carl Koller:
Wonderful and enlightening-very very nice for me-
I'm a genius, I'm a genius
I'm a genius, I'm a genius
And you can use it to numb your penis, just as well

Freud;
But I'm the poor guy who made this discovery
That you can use cocaine for eye surgery
Koller made his life easy by stealing my discovery

Its addictive don't you know? -, I can't let it go.
Addicted! No! -, Your doing too much snow- Oh My Nose!
Addicted! You're doing too much blow- Oh My Nose!
Addicted! You really ought to know how to let it go
But it will not let me go, Oh My Nose!
I will not let it go, Fix My Nose!
Nose,nose,nose,nose,nose,nose,nose-
Wilhelm Fleiss, Wilhelm Fleiss, Wilhelm Fleiss, Fixed
My nose-
Wilhelm Fleiss was a devil put aside for me, for me,
for me-
.................................................
(Direct Quote from Freud's letter to Fleiss)
("There has never been a six-month period in which I so constantly and ardently longed to be living in the same place as you.)

Freud:
Did you think you could make us out to be bi?
So you think Wilhelm loved me and left me to die?
Oh Wilhelm- they can't do this to us Wilhelm-
Just got to get out-just gotta get right outta here-

Rehab really mattered
The whole world could see
Rehab really mattered, rehab really mattered much to me

And I did away with all that blow

Pacing is close to the original maybe about 50% of the time, so I'll give pacing the middle-of-the-road rating...but the overall parody is unique, clever, and witty, so 5's for funny & overall.... 3-5-5, excellent effort with a detailed historical topic, Joe!

I took courses in psychology so I am familiar with who Freud was and what he did, but I didn't know this! This made me doubly happy since I'm a big Queen fan.

355 from me, too. If you took just a few uneccesary little words out, it'd be perfect, pacewise. A unique idea that obviously required some research. The bisexuality thing came a bit out of left field, but, hell, it makes more sense than Freddie's lyrics at that point anyway. The "Oh My Nose" choral part was my favorite bit.

I second Johnny D's comments, except a notch higher in the pacing. Very clever.

Pacing limps in a few places, but the rhymes were clever and the choice of subject original for a song that the old-timers have claimed is being parodied to death. One historical quibble though: cocaine wasn't sniffed in powder form in Freud's time, but swallowed as a syrup like most modern cough medicines. To quote from snopes.com:

"Robinson created the [Coca-Cola] logo in 1886, at a time when cocaine was readily available in all manner of over-the-counter products. Unlike these days, however, when we think of cocaine as coming in the form of a fine, white powder that has to be snorted through a $100 bill, consumers of the 1880s knew the drug as a liquid. No one snorted cocaine in those days; they drank it. The idea that an artist would in 1886 incorporate into the logo a visual representation of a drug behavior that didn't then exist is a bit much to swallow. "

Ingeborg: Yes it does seem that Freud sniffing powder cocaine might be a bit of a reach by the time Freud got off the stuff snorting powder cocaine was just becoming popular. Could it be possible that Freud was applying liquid cocaine to his nasal passages in his and Fleiss's nasal based research and is there a correlation between this possible nasal application of liquid cocaine and Freud's two nasal operations (deviated septum or a nose job (I believe Fleiss did the operations) The following is a time line that relates to this: 1884 Freud publishes On Coca in which he recommends the use of cocaine to treat a variety of conditions including morphine addiction. 1884 Merck produces 3,179 pounds of Cocaine. 1886 Merck produces 158,352 pounds of Cocaine. 1886 Coca-Cola is first introduced by John Pemberton, containing cocaine laced syrup and caffeine. Late 1880s Parke,Davis starts to manufacture refined cocaine. 1901 Coca-Cola removed Coca from their formula. 1905 Snorting cocaine becomes popular. 1910 First cases of nasal damage from Cocaine snorting are written of in medical literature. First cases of nasal damage from Cocaine snorting are seen in hospitals.
