The Lyrics

This segment of the movie is short, as the witch flies overhead in the Emerald City to show off her skywriting skills. We will next pause our on-going program for an intermission segment hosted by Robert Osborne from Turner Movie Classics, as he provides some interesting trivia about the making of the movie.
SURRENDER DOROTHY
(ominous music)
The witch has followed us here...
We all are quaking with fear...
'Surrender Dorothy', up there....
Seems she doesnt have much pull here...

INTERMISSION
Did you all know Buddy Ebsen,
Whom you might know as hillbilly Jed Clampett,
Was the first actor slated to play the Tin Man?
He had crude plastic joints keeping his suit on
And it gave him the blues
When they sloshed aluminum paint on his face to shine on
He looked all right
But then on second sight
He then suffered bouts of asphyxiation
It's such a shame, you know
When his ailments came through
Through the Variety news,
They sent poor Buddy home

The director made Judy Garland squirm
Poor Margaret Hamilton, she got burned
Mercyful fate it didn't burn her witch's skirt!
Though Jack Haley was actually limber
The new silver suit was a pain
They got a big gurney to prop him up during lunch breaks
Bert Lahr, he lost a size
In that fur suit, never dry
He had no A/C to cool to
Oooh babe, each suffered on their own
But they sent poor Buddy home

He had good vocal tones
He later played Barnaby Jones

Interesting stuff in that Intermission. Didn't know that Jed Clampett was originally cast as the Tin Man. Also the scene where Dorothy goes from Sepia into Full Color actually had to be painted that way because they didn't have the computer technology yet to do it the easy way
