The Do-335 Pfeil (Arrow) fighter was the last of the German piston engine aircraft of 1945 to show promise with a twin-engine design that could propel the fighter up to 477 mph! The engines were mounted fore and aft (2x DB 603G @ 1900 hp each) and for stability the Arrow had a cruciform tail. To clear this in event of danger, an ejection seat was fitted. Armament was comprised of typical late-war fighter arrangement of 2x 20mm MG-151/20s above the engine plus a standard 30mm MK-103 firing through the prop spinner. Two more 30mm MK-103s in pods would be mounted under each wing for more firepower. Performance was good with 4600 fpm climb, ceiling of 37,000 ft. and range of 1250 miles extended to over 2330 miles with drop tanks (although in "Defense of the Reich" mode over German territory this would not be necessary)! 90 were built before the war ended, but only 60 flew and a mere 20 made it to test units. More were on the assembly lines. But no action was taken with the Arrow. Unlike the fast Fw Ta 152 at 472 mph, it never got into the battle, but was an amazing find by the Allies. It certainly could outrun and outfight the Stangs, Spits, and Yaks of May 1945.
