Original Performer:

Lynard Skynard

Parody Song Title:

"Awol In Alabama"

Parody Written by:

Carl Winter

The Lyrics

Greased wheels keep on turning
Gettin' favors 'cause of kin
Catapulted to a Guard slot
It's clear your Bush name got you in
And I think it's a sin, yes

Well I heard your training cost a million
Getting' those jets right off the ground
You scrapped it all and went civilian
Soon you were nowhere to be found, anyhow

AWOL in Alabama
Disappeared into the blue
AWOL in Alabama
There's no sign of W

Your Swift Boat Liars skewered Kerry
Who risked his life while you withdrew
And now you're putting kids in harm's way
Does your conscience bother you?
Tell the truth

AWOL in Alabama
Disappeared into the blue
AWOL in Alabama
There's no sign of W

As Molly Ivins put it: "Dubya was born with silver foot in his mouth."

And was it Jim Hightower who said he was "born on 3rd base and thinks he hit a triple"? Well done, 5s from me!

Carl - another super parody
John - that sounds like it ought to be the start of a parody to Substitute by the Who...

Well done. Leave it to two draft dodgers to get us involved in an unjust war. I hope the Kerry Administration can figure out a way to make Messrs. Bush and Cheney make up their time by serving in Iraq.

5/5/5 here too...but you spelled the band name incorrectly. It should be Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Gets a triple-five from me.

You fell a verse short but I don't care. Of course, AWOL could also stand for Ask Where's Osama bin Laden?

Pacing gets a 5 since it's right on track. Also gets a five for being funny; although I am a Bush supporter, I view this as if I were a Democrat and think it is quite good. But since there are three verses and you did only two, I lower the overall by one to a 4.
Ingeborg S. Nordén - September 29, 2004 - Report this comment
Clever, forthright, generally well-paced except for the missing verse. 4-5-5...

I think it's BS ya'll don't need to be making fun of that sacred song of the south. These artists were the best there ever was and will always be the greatest. George Bush is also a good president if he wouldn't in the office right now then we would probably be ruled by Sudam Hussain. So this ain't funny AT ALL.
