Parody Song Title:

"A Cause For Some Tears"

Parody Written by:

Paul Robinson

The Lyrics

Yeah, I know most of you are probably more familiar with the Smokey Robinson version, but Ronstadt did a powerful job on her version, and, besides, it's the only version of it I have...Like Donald Rumsfeld would say, "You write the Parody to the OS that you have"...or some kind of dismissive bullsh*t like that...
[during Instrumental intro]
{We're screwed}
{In deep doo-doo}
{Yes, that is true}
{We've been lied to}

You can see we've been lied to quite baldly
We have not been told the truth
Just three years back he did his "Victory Party"
dance in that pilot suit

Now three years since; we're in Iraq
That place has fallen right off the track
It's citizens are killed and kidnaped
There's not much to cheer
No-oh-oh-oh

See the truth {it's true}
it's screwed {that's true}

Since elected we've been fed nothing but bald-face lies
Haven't you folks had enough?
Some of you thought that cute
it gave you cause to root, but
look at the harm that it's done

Yes, take a good look at our fate
where we seem to be headed of late
Might lose composure and begin to hate
What's happening here

Whoa-oh-oh

These guys
manipulate us
they're liars
that you cannot trust
It's make me frown
Oh, yeah, when I just look around
It's not right what they did
What George Bush told us was not true

So take a good look and then brace
'Cause what you see won't be easy to face
What's happened there is just a disgrace
we'll live with for years

Oh-oh-oh-oh
...and we will not fix this with haste
The wrong things done you can't just erase
It's not that simple
you can't just re-trace
what steps got us here
{no, you can't re-trace}

[out to fade]
It's clear that Bush should be replaced...

listening to the recording version as i read along...these word echo the melancholy feel of the OS very well...nice bashin' too

Thanks, alvin...yeah - Ronstadt's version is actually better suited to what I wrote, anyway...

What happens when an irresistible force (my contempt for the Bush Cabal) meets an immovable object (my rule that crediting Linda Rondstadt means you automatically get docked a point)? The force is with you: Five counts of impeachment!

A wise and "Solomon-like" decision, Michael...and besides, LR's version of this song IS really quite good - and in tone fits my piece much, much better...it has more ANGER and POWER in it than Smokey's very sad and mournful rendition. The melancholy is fully present in both, but the points cry to be belted OUT...rather than meekly whispered. thanks ~

And, here's to you, Mr. Robinson. A fine parody to a wonderful OS by both performers. 555

DKOS, but I do agree with the content...

Thanks, TT - I always try to bash with some class...because anger, disgust and disappointment at a reckless and dishonest leader are only the story - one issue...they color the content and direction I choose to take...totally separate from that are the craftmanship and attention to detail that the writer should apply to ALL their works. Lazy or sloppy work in those areas tend to detract from whatever point and power the writer wants to convey. Besides, repetitive choruses in these types of works only reach those who already agree...myself, my brain starts to go numb when I run into that in a read...although with some OS/parody works it happens to be the way to go...well, off the soapbox - our first week of "Off-Season" has 4 minutes left...someone brought beer to our 1st Off-Season Friday Barbeque & Pot-luck feast, which could not be imbibed during working hours...so some of us are going to help remove the offending brews from the office by volunteering to stay a bit later and drink them...

Paul, I have to admit, there are times when a cover version is different enough to make some parodies work better. I redid the Shirelles' song to become "Will You Love Me Tomorrow (If I'm Broke Tonight)," and it worked better to the Four Seasons' very different cover. The ladies from Passaic, New Jersey made it almost a proto-feminist song in '61, predating Ellen Foley (Meat Loaf's aural girlfriend) in "Paradise By the Dashboard Light" by several years with her demanding, "So tell me now, and I won't ask again, will you still love me tomorrow?" But when Frankie Valli and the boys from Newark did it in '68, they were practically begging. How Frankie could beg and still sound more macho than James Blunt is a mystery, but he did. So while I detest most of Linda Ronstadt's covers -- I'm still mad at the late, great relief pitcher Tug McGraw for calling a pitch "my Linda Ronstadt fastball, 'cause it blew by you" instead of a "Roy Orbison fastball" -- your point is made.
