The Lyrics

It was known as The Rambler,
That old cheap highway scrambler,
A crude car from the Sixties,
And a kettle of steel hash..
They were not built for beauty
Or to give dur-able duty
Only thing they were good for,
Was to save a little cash..

Popularity, uncanny,
One in every fam'ly
Dealers moved 'em like hotcakes,
Sales high in the ranks..
They were rightly named, I'll say, sir,
Rambled like a drunken sailor,
More fit for the Army,
Cuz' they kinda' looked like tanks..

What the salesman failed to tell you,
Was it had no resale value
Peddled at a lower price,
Not sticker shock, but stuck..
Parked your Rambler..in the clover
Long before two years was over
A' rustin' out there in the backyard,
Makin' shelter for a duck..

Big steerin' wheel, hard to hold 'em
Times, had to scold 'em
Get out and kick a tire,
Cuss..and then pray..
The curse of men and women
Was a' squeezin' that old lemon
Took a miracle to start 'em,
Get to work each day..

Nash-Hudson made the merge
And came up with that bucket,
Assembled in Wisconsin,
The Kenosha Cadillac..
Had tight, stiff suspension,
Was flawed too much to mention,
The very day you drove it home
You should 'a took it back..

Now, half a century later,
Don't see those alligators,
Crushed 'em years ago, I guess
No parts left to restore..
No, they're not in Car Heaven
In Hell, their engine's revvin'
And like that Wrangler, Little Joe,
They'll never Ramble more..

Big steerin' wheel, hard to hold 'em
Times, had to scold 'em
Get out and kick a tire,
Cuss..and then pray..
The curse of men and women
Was a' squeezin' that old lemon
Took a miracle to start 'em,
Get to work each day

Took a miracle to start 'em,
Get to work each day

AFW... I gave you 555 for the parody b/c it is meant to be humorous, but was actually offended by this. I got excited over the title b/c my dad grew up on AMC and even worked for AMC when young. There are so many flaws in what you wrote and I could spend the day pointing them out, but suffice to say that the Rambler was not only one of the strongly remembered AMC cars but loved by many. Some people think AMC was a joke but it went from niche market to taking on the Big Three and producing a range of memorable cars as well as V-8 high-hp engines. Rambler, Scrambler, Rebel, Javelin, Matador, AMX, Ambassador, Hornet, etc... I grew up in AMCs until after my dad died in '75. My mom bought a '77 Pontiac Grand Prix. But the AMCs served well- they are not junk.

Thanks, Mark, Susanna,...and Rob...offended? Really?..It should be obvious that it's a spoof...almost everything I write is a spoof..When I write a serious parody, that's generally obvious, too..Spoofing, I believe, is the main objective of almost all parodists on this site, or anywhere, for that matter...Did you worry about offending someone with all the Nazi and German oriented parodies you've written?....I'm offended by you saying you're offended...I've purchased three brand new Ramblers in my time...Get real..parodies are spoofs..if you're offended by spoofing, you shouldn't even be writing or reading parodies

Sir L'Air de Farce, never purchased a " Ram " . . . but did drive a rusted 1960 wagon model, that had weak brakes and only 3rd gear with a driver's door had to held shut: quite an adventure in driving, Sir ! !

I apologize AFW... I took the parody the wrong way. Saw the title and got excited b/c I too have been wanting to do a Rambler song but thought yours would be pro like mine will be rather than con. Since my dad loved AMCs and Ramblers, and since I loved my dad, I took it all wrong- personal. My dad actually worked for AMC when he was young and was offered a high position there but could not accept due to other obligations that led him into the Govt Intel realm of blackness. I love AMC and have fond memories of his powder-blue '67 Rambler- still got the complimentary model they used to hand out when you bought one. It is in mint shape, mounted, and encased to protect it. I did a GaGa parody on Judas with AMX. Check it out some time. I would kill to have a '71 AMC Javelin AMX with the 401!!!

Got into this one late, but my second car was a white 1967 Rambler American 4-door. I could change five of the six spark plugs myself. Which I had to do one morning to get it to start. Six cylinder engine got 10 mpg. My V-8 Chrysler does better than that. Rambler used to eat transmissions. Years ago I saw a Rambler Ambassador with right-hand steering wheel, ex Post Office. Driven by two little ladies. Minnesota license plate "RAM-JAM".

AFW - Fine job. Wasn't George Romney (Mitt's dad) the head of American Motors at one time? ;D
