The Lyrics

Imagine this text floating away from your widescreens in ten million years against a dark starry backdrop with the theme from STAR WARS playing, with George Bush instead of the Emperor and Donald Rumsfeld instead of Darth Vadar
A long time ago, in a galaxy far away, on
a remote planet that thought itself isolated
in the universe, the empire was attacked by a
small informal alliance. The alliance penetrated
deep into the heart of the empire, killing thousands.
The Empire felt much grief, and a vulnerability it never
knew before. The Emperor knew he must act quickly and
decisively to defeat the rebels and protect the Empire's assets.

The Empire Strikes Back

Immediately, the allies of the empire
came to its aid, and the empire sent its
warplanes to far away nations to root out the
rebels leaders from the caves in which they had
planned the insurrection and to root out the councils
that gave shelter to the rebels. The council was crushed.
The allies and the Empire won the day, and the planet saw
much rejoicing. The rebels were destroyed and they fled abroad.

Return of the Jihad

However, with the rebels on the run,
the empire went too far. The Emperor
went after other councils, who had been
neutral in the conflict, and had given no support
to the rebels. In so doing, the councils united in their
opposition to the empire. The emperor became a symbol
of the Empires evil. The allies of the Empire abandoned her
and left the council and the Empire to battle it out for itself. Only
the monarchy which spawned the Empire took sides with the Empire
in one last ditch attempt to maintain its relevance. But the allies of the councils
gained support from the neutral nations that were eager to prevent the Empire from
becoming too strong. The red Kings of the east in particular took note of the Empires
rise with fear. The stage was set for a power struggle between the small but well equipped
armies of the empire, and the much larger band of rebels. There could be no place for complete
neutrality. The Emperor therefore issued an edict: You are either with the Empire or you are against it.

Points taken off for not really being a song in the first place. Points added for creativity of idea. Points added simply for the phrase "Return of the Jihad". Final score: 3-5-4

I've noticed that political parodies tend to get lower marks. Are there actually people out there who think Dubya is not a bumbling idiot?

Say what you want about Dubya, but his dad paid good money so that he was surrounded by a lot of competent people. And the democratic side is a much better source for humor right now.

I agree that the democrats are humor worthy right now (see my 'Democratic presidential candidate show' parody in the top ten). I also am racking my brains trrying to come up with a parody of Howard Deans ridiculous 'heeeaaaaaahhhh' speech monday night....

Interesting idea. Thing is, Bush Sr. and Bush Jr. were never on opposite sides like Vader and Luke. I was disappointed that the word "coalition" (used by both Bushes) wasn't in there somewhere. (Whatever happened to the word "alliance"?)

I don't care about the politics in this posting, and I don't care that it's not a song. Laurence, this is totally cool and immensely creative. You have broken new ground here - a visually-presented parody of expositive text that is superimposed over a well-known orchestral theme. This is a new genre of parody, and I commend you for it. I don't care what anyone else thinks about this. I give it a very well-deserved triple 5. Good job, Laurence - be proud of this.

2nz, if I were Daddy Bush, paying for competent people around my son, I'd want my money back. This is the most incompetent adminstration since Harding's.
