Original Song Title:

"If I Were A Carpenter"

Original Performer:

Johnny Cash

Parody Song Title:

"If I Were A Democrat"

Parody Written by:

Malcolm Higgins

The Lyrics

if I were a democrat
my dealings all shady
keep the truth well under hat
and cry like a baby

if elections I could rig,
with chads that are dimpled
maybe eating them clears my skin
so I'm not so pimpled

save myself from loneliness
save myself from sorrow
join the side for a second term
a better life tomorrow

if Bill Clinton had been good,
I'd stay a lefty
but Monica gave him wood,
and he was so shifty

If I was a lawyer
what would I be proving,
like a democrat, know I lie
cause my lips are moving..

if I were a democrat
my dealings all shady
keep the truth well under hat
and cry like a baby

Credit for taking on RFK campaign worker Bobby Darin, but, Mal, if you were a Democrat, you'd receive the Daniel Patrick Moynihan Memorial Award for Political Transvestism, Joseph I. Lieberman, current title-holder. The last time Democrats (outside the South, anyway) had your views, the Red Sox were perennial World Champions. And Eugene Debs, Socialist candidate, was getting a million votes, 'cause there was nowhere for true liberals to go.
