The Lyrics

I've been diagnosed with elevated insulin levels. On my case going on low-carb diet a couple of years and avoiding carbohydrates was right decision; I might have developed diabetes sooner or later. It has meant also I have needed to give up some of my favourite snacks. (Sigh.)
In the morning - I'll cook the beans
At the lunchtime - I'll have some cheese
For the dinner - I'll fry the fish
In the evening - fruits are my dish

Have to skip potato chips
Skip it! Skip it!
No more Coke will pass my lips
Skip it! Skip it!
Have to skip potato chips, instead I'll barbecue the ribs
Skip it! Skip it! Skip it!

Meals of meat - and tofu
With salad - drink just fruit juice
No more rice - no pasta too
Beer is out - ice cream won't do

Have to skip potato chips
Skip it! Skip it!
No more fat to grow my hips
Skip it! Skip it!
Have to skip potato chips, gonna check some low-carb tips -
Skip it! Skip it! Skip it!

TV dinners - they let me down
all that fast food - no more around
No pizza more - burgers are out
And salty sticks - they make me shout -

Have to skip potato chips
Skip it! Skip it!
No more snacks nor sourcream dips
Skip it! Skip it!
Have to skip potato chips, all the stuff I liked are 'nix'!
Skip it! Skip it! Skip it!

Kristof, Ian Dury was also one of my favourites. He was polio survivor (he had paralysis, from which he recovered), and his struggle and success has been inspiration for many disabled people all around the world. The Blockheads do still performing, even if Ian Dury left the early existence already.

Ouch. Well I feel very sorry for you I hope you can still really enjoy what you eat even though you have to skip some things.

Reminds me of one I almost wrote when I dabbled in low-carb: "See You Later, Mashed Potaters (After Awhile Pasta Pile)" -- dktos but nice job and I've felt your pain.

Claude, the key for surviving the low-carb diet is making virtue out of necessity. Whenever I desire chips or Coke, I instead go for cheese.and juice :) For me, low-carb diet means keeping the endochrine in control. I have diabetes on both sides of the family.

Ian Dury died from colon cancer in 2000. His wife passed away already in 1994. He is survived by his son and daughter.

Incidentally, one of the other Blockheads - drummer Charley Charles - also died of cancer, in 1990. The band actually reformed with the intention of raising money for his treatment, and although he passed away before they were ready to perform, they've continued ever since. Oh, yeah - good parody Susanna! :-)

Suzanna, nice helathy parody! On the Campagna the blue Weber cactus, not only produces the best Tequila, but also the Agave, which is a ~low-glycemic~ natural sweetner. Cowboy Jim actually turned a profit from the Agave, not his Tequila! Ay, Cohiba!
