The Lyrics

I hail from Nebraska,
And I come from a close knit family
We lived on the farm as poor folks,
But were proud of our ancestry
Nightly chore it was,
Just like a Lord ruled selection..
Right after suppertime,
We were family a-dishin'

When I was young, no 'lectric lines
Wood stove for heat,
And a wood stove to cook
We'd light dim oil lamps to read the good book..
Our entertainment,
Was a battery radio listen..
And after we ate,
Had to clean up each plate,
It was the family a' dishin;

Days my daddy worked
Cultivatin' corn..
And he believed hard work was
Your worth, and the reason you're born
Didn't understand then,
But linkin' now, with his position..
My Mama'd wash, and Dad and I'd dry
We'd be family a' dishin'

If you ask me plain,
What do I think
Are good fam'ly val-ues..
I'll say the dust of good earth in my shoes
When I look, farther than my nose,
At these new fangled modern day connections,
They're small amounts,
The symbol of what counts
Is a..family a' dishin'

Lordy, I've lived some high times
And had some low times, too
But keep on survivin'
In spite of the things I been through
When the doctor spanked me,
Guess he knew I'd be deservin' some switchin'
I thank that sawbones,
And these old chromosomes
For that..family a' dishin'

So, If you asked me now
What do I think ?
Are good fam'ly val-ues..
I'd say this dust of good earth in my shoes
Cuz' I see, 'since I'm older now,
All these new fangled modern day connections,
Aren't worth an ounce,
And nothin' really counts
Like the..family a' dishin'

AFW -Is this your story, won? If not, it's still good. ;D

Thanks, OMR...yes, it snags a scrap from my pre-adult years...Of course, my ex would make the point that I've never left those years, and she might be right

What a shame that those values have almost completely died out -- which accounts for a lot of our problems these days. What FG said.... Dishin' out Fives.

Now this parody hits closer to home as it is! Nice to share most of those family values. This is what every family needs everyday...to be close to each other. When we vacationed in Florida, we even tried to prepare a Southern meal such as grits, fried chicken, biscuits, and Martha White brownies for dessert. Also nice to hear about your pre-adult years as well. Here's a family pack of 5's for this one! BTW, I dreamt that I married my boyfriend (who moved to Arizona recently) I had back in my pre-teen years and started a family together.
