The Lyrics

This parody, my 114th on the site, concerns the UEFA Champions League, especially Real Madrid's dominance of the competition in recent years. Its title comes from the practice of calling the club's rivals Barcelona "UEFAlona," as it was once thought that the governing body of European soccer had manipulated various matches in European competition in favour of the Catalan side. Now, however, Real Madrid have put that manipulation to shame, warranting the epithet "UEFAdrid." For example, did you see Sergio Ramos throw Mo Salah of Liverpool to the turf in the 2018 final--and, more importantly, get away with it? In a just situation, Ramos would have AT LEAST been booked, but he got a free kick to boot! That was what sparked this parody.
In another year or so,
I am sure it’s gonna blow
When a Spanish team fulfills its dream,
And it’s not Atlético.
Meantime, Barça will choke,
Regarded as a joke,
And the Premier League will greatly seek
To save face for flopping in Europe.
It matters not who tries,
They will cry sooner or later
‘Cos one damn bunch will always munch
On glory just like gators,
And thanks to a system rigged,
They’ll always win, and big:
UEFAdrid, naturally.

To think that when I was young,
Champions League could be won
By a wide array of teams that today
Would find themselves quickly done!
Now, there seems to be no room
For the outsiders—just doom—
‘Cos the super-sides with which we must abide
Hijacked the event for ever.
Where’s the parity
That to me should be exalted
When Euro football’s one per cent
Might clearly seek to fault it?
One team does epitomize
Disparity’s massive size:
UEFAdrid, naturally.

It seems to me they buy the trophies that they haven’t earned
With politicians (1) to do their mission.
What do we do? What do we do?

(Instrumental break)

UEFAdrid, naturally.

Now, I don’t want leagues to be closed
Like here in the States, as you know,
But I’d like Nyon (2) to pick up the phone
And to me all the answers show.
Surely, they can but explain
Why o’er and o’er again
It’s the same old team laying waste to dreams
Any other big club’s conceiving.
But, until they do,
It’s boo-hoo you will be hearing,
And when you do not hear a sound
At Merengues I’ll be sneering.
In fact, what if they’re the same,
Corrupting the whole game?
UEFAdrid, naturally…

UEFAdrid, naturally.
Footnotes: (1) Some say that Francisco Franco had a say in Real's first six European Cups. (2) Nyon, Switzerland is the headquarters of UEFA.
