Original Song Title:

"Alone Again, Naturally"

Original Performer:

Gilbert O'Sullivan

Parody Song Title:

"I'm Prone To Sin, Drunkenly"

Parody Written by:

Dee Range

The Lyrics

In a little dim-lit bar
As I sit drinkin' whiskey-laced sours
I promised some girl I would not hurl
Or pee on her neighbor's flowers

The barkeep's seen enough
And cuts my ass off
But it's way too far, I can't find my car
Don't you know it's hard when you're plastered

I'm puking by the fence, and the stench
Has people saying, "My God, that punk
Is so damn drunk
I can't believe he's standing

I try to leave with grace
But fall right on my face
I'm prone again, drunkenly

The drinking started yesterday
I guzzle beer, fart and bray
Drinkin' doubles too, just beer wouldn't do
As I went through alla' my pay

But my wife called on the phone
And said to get my ass home
So I paid my tab, and called a cab
'Cause it's bad when she goes postal

When she goes that route
And she shouts, they hear in Jersey
And then she hammers with both fists
Seldom shows me mercy...as I beg and plead
The beating still proceeds
I'm prone again, drunkenly

Bridge

It seems to me that there are more bones
Broken by my girl when she's offended
Her hook is splendid
Uppercut too...what can I do?

Instrumental break (with sounds of bones breaking)

I'm prone again, drunkenly

Now heaving up all of those beers
And whatever else that appears
I just covered my bride with Milwakee's Pride
And then headed for new frontiers

But she's shifty, that I know
Don't matter just where I go
I still understand, she will track her man
And one morning I will awaken

Waking up with dread
That I'm dead just goes unspoken
Despite discouragement from me
Legs will be badly broken

When she calls it a day
I'll drink and drink all day

I'm prone to sin.... drunkenly

I'm prone to gin

Naturally

There'll never be enough good drinking songs! "555" he slurred!

Ha! now that is in my top 5 of yours Dee, and that's saying something - and who would've thought? a liquor theme! - and a great title - and being dissed by the partner seems to be today's theme - 555

It's bad enough you drink like that, but did you have to marry a Mafia princess? Or an FBI Agent, I'm not sure which. Might be nice if I could settle it, or else risk the wrath of both sides.

Here's five cups of coffee. Don't drink them all in one place.

WHOA! Brilliant, LOL FUNNY! Definitely one of my favorites of yours too, Dee! The Milwaukee's pride on my bride line is a classic. Splendid hook too. High fives!

You must be blowing a .555 alcohol level! LOL. Great pacing and phrasing.

Good song. Just one problem though: what does the title have to do with getting drunk. There's nothing wrong with an occasional beer or two. (Actually there is, according to some beliefs. *Sigh!*)

Good one Dee, I agree with Kristof. ;-)

Something about this OS brings out the Bacchanalian in parody writers...yours is about drunkeness...mine is about sex... 555 ;-)
Michael Pacholek - August 14, 2005 - Report this comment
Yours is about sex, Johnny? Be careful, you wouldn't want to get typecast. Of course, I've done one of this song about sex, one about a washed-up actor, one about food and one about Bush's insane Saddam obsession. See, one subject is a fixation, four is diversity. Or am I just blowing smoke?

A very good parody all the way through, but I liked the "offended/splendid" couplet best.

SOTM...well, at the very least, this is my favorite of the alcohol themed entries for this month...; ) I love it when people do this OS well...nice job, Dee!

What Adagio said. Heh heh.

Right now I'm sitting here with my head spinning, awed at the talent on this site. I love this, Dee. Offended/splendid and the Milwaukee's Pride line stood out, but I love this all the way through.

Also, as I listened along with the original, I couldn't help but think that there are several denizens of this site who could record this and do a bang-up job of it; the production of the original is pretty simple. PLEASE SOMEONE VOLUNTEER.

You and Heathcliff the Cat should get together: one adept at constant drinking, the other prone to sin, drunkenly.. you'd have a great night out ;-D

(SOTM) Ditto on the Milwaukee's Pride line. Really enjoyed this.

You don't have to tell me about a wife going postal...."once you go postal, you'll like it the most-al". Or something like that. Anyway, funny stuff.

(SOTM) I love the way you write, Dee...and a booze parody from you is manna from heaven. Bravo!
