The Lyrics

This is a misheard misinterpretation of a popular song from my youth. Visby is a medieval walled city on a Swedish island. It's a historical site, I read about it in a book. 'Earth' sounds like similar to 'birth' and at the time I remember the Skylab missions and the Apollo-Soyuz linkup (I saw that one live on TV). And of course recently we just had the first humans on the moon. And at the time the comedian Bob Hope had his comedy specials on TV, sponsored by the Texaco gas company. 'Flying turd' is a naughty naughty thing that us boys said when we wanted to really 'talk nasty cool' and get away with it. It's childish of course. I remember hearing this song in my parents' 1969 Chevrolet Impala gas guzzler's radio when we were heading on the highway to visit my grandparents during the had summer. I was only 7 years old when this song came out and this is what my 7-year-old immature mind heard and made out of it. I ain't making any of this up, I was only a child then.
Visby love

Visby love

Visby peace on earth

Give me light

Give me life

Keep me free from Earth

Give me hope

Texaco, with this heavy load

Flying turd, across the street to ya

Heart and so

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh

M m m my load! . .

Please take hold of my head, that

I might understand you

Won't you please

Oh won't you

Visby love

Visby love

Give me peace on earth

Give me light

Give me life

Keep me free from Earth

Give me hope

Texaco, with this heavy load

Flying turd, across the street to ya

Heart and so

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh

M m m my load! . .

(*here's where the electric guitar kicks in*)

Won't you please

Oh won't you (*cynmbal crash!*)

Visby love

Visby love

Give me peace on earth

Give me light

Give me life

Keep me free from Earth

Give me hope

Texaco, with this heavy load

Flying turd, across the street to ya

Heart and so

Visby love

Visby love

Give me peace on earth

Give me light

Give me life

Keep me free from Earth now

Give me hope

Texaco, with this heavy load

Flying turd, across the street to ya (*electric guitar sliding here*)

With ha-art and so-oh-ohhh

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh

M m m my load! . .

(*more electric guitar, then the acoustic guitar coda*)
I submitted this to the Misheard Section as well. I didn't really know exactly where to fit this. This is how I heard the song for much of my life, I was just a child in elementary school when it came out and these are the misheard lyrics AS I HEARD IT. Again, I was just a little kid. How could I have known any better? Have a good day.

I absolutely love the town of Visby - I have been there a dozen or so times annually in the Visby Middle Ages Week.
